IT'S OFFICIAL: Viloria Comes Home to SMU
Viloria Comes Home To The Hilltop
Former Great Named Head Strength & Conditioning Coach
Jan. 19, 2007
DALLAS (SMU) - Former SMU great Vic Viloria has returned to the Hilltop as the Mustangs' new Head Strength & Conditioning Coach, Director of Athletics Steve Orsini announced today.
Viloria, a four-year letterman and three-year All-WAC performer, returns to SMU after spending the last two years as a strength & conditioning coach at LSU, serving as the interim head coach in the summer of 2006. In his time in Baton Rouge, Viloria worked with the Tiger football, baseball, swimming and golf teams.
As a linebacker, Viloria led SMU in tackles for three straight seasons and recorded at least 10 tackles in 21 games over his career. Following his senior season in 2002, Viloria was drafted by the Scottish Claymores of NFL Europe.
"I'm honored and excited to be back at SMU," said Viloria. "SMU is a place where student-athletes can earn a degree from a top-notch school, while at the same time having access to some of the finest athletic facilities in the country. I know that SMU has top-25 potential. As a player, I gave my heart and soul to this university, and as the new head strength and conditioning coordinator, I'm going to do the same. It's been five years since I was last at SMU, but I've always had that Mustang pride. I'm looking forward to being part of some special moments here at SMU."
Viloria is the third former Mustang letterwinner to return to SMU since Orsini was hired, joining Associate A.D. for Marketing & Public Relations Richard Sweet (Track & Field) and Assistant A.D. for Business & Finance Kris Lowe (Basketball).

Vic...
I heard he is a CRAZY strength and conditioning coach, which is awesome for the team. I know a lot of guys on the team and they all said they threw up the first day, they said workouts are so intense, way more intense then they used to be. This is great for the program, I think everyone will see the hard work in the weightroom by the time the season comes around. Vic was always a bigtime player at SMU, carried our defense the last couple of years while he was here.
Great hire!
GO PONIES!!!

If any of you Ponyfans with a interest in exactly how great of a program Victa runs, he is widely open about letting anyone come down watch one of their sessions.
I've been a longtime friend and teammate of Vic, and if you have any doubts about how well he'll do at the place he loves more than any other, you're wasting your time.
Orsini is the best move this campus has made in years and he'll continue to prove just how much he "gets it" and brings this place back to what it has long desired to be.
I know it's late and I'm up past my bedtime, but in light of recent conversations with people whose opinions and experience I truly respect, this is a fantastic time to be on the wagon and it is our duty to keep people on the forefront.
