A personal question...
This is SMU related only in the fact that I am a graduate, so you can stop reading now if you wish.
My wife and I have decided we are going to attend a major (not Major) golf tourney next year. She wants to go to one that all the big boys play. We have checked the times and determined the two options we have are next years US Open at Torrey Pines (La Jolla, CA), or the TPC @ Sawgrass. We stayed at the Hilton in La Jolla on the golf course where the Open will be so we are familiar with it somewhat, but I have never been to Florida and know nothing about the TPC trip other than it is a good venue with excellent viewing avaiable. I need to make reservations now for one of them and was wondering if anyone on board had any experience, especially with the TPC area and could offer some advice.
I had such good advice for my NYC trip that I have found this board to be an excellent source for honest opinions. At least for trips.

Thanks. I was a little bored in La Jolla when I was there. Only so much fun in art galleries. Zoo was nice but one and done. I am leaning toward TPC but just have no knowledge whatsoever of the area.smupony94 wrote:Always love La Jolla but Sawgrass is fun too. Jacksonville is easy to get in and out of easily plus there is more to do than just golf.

I doubt I could get into the Masters. I understand it is pretty exclusive even for the practice rounds. There are a lot of Arkansas connections but I do not have an "in" with the right ones.EastStang wrote:Go to the Masters. Early April in Georgia is beautiful. If you want to have a great time giggling at double bogeys, go to the U.S. Open.

I am not really concerned about "what to do" since the main reason for the trip would be to watch the golf tourney. I am old so I do not do a lot of wild night life stuff anymore. I am looking for good golf and lazy times on the beach or by the pool. Good food is a plus. I was not real impressed with the La Jolla cusine on my trip there.
And by the way Current STUDent, where were you then when I needed someone to buy me a drink. When I went to La Jolla before I found out during the trip that my company had sold and that kind of put a damper on the whole trip. I sure needed that drink.
I am really leaning toward the TPC just for a change of scenery and the fact I have never been there before. But if I can get a room at The Lodge at Torrey Pines I might change my mind.

Thanks. Good to hear from someone who has been to both. I think my deciding factor is going to be the fact that I have to order and pay for the US Open tickets now and then they have a random drawing later in the year. I am sure I would have a deposit for a room that would be nonrefundable if I do not get my tickets. At the TPC on the other hand I can get it all right now and have it locked in.ponyplayer wrote:been to both....had more fun at TPC, you have to experience the 17th just once, can be a riot when fans have had too many.... beverages......Master`s is sold out and impossible to get tickets.......San Diego is pretty nice...can`t go wrong with either..there`s my two cents......
Thanks to all for your input.
Would you ever consider going to the British Open when it's at St. Andrews?mrydel wrote:Thanks. Good to hear from someone who has been to both.
