Rice Gets Early Verbal QB Commitment for 2008
Xavier Webb goes about 5-foot-10, 200 pounds. Webb plays quarterback for Montgomery high school. He gave Rice an early verbal commitment...
"I committed to Rice because of the academics," Webb told Scout.com, "And because it's pretty close to home."
JR Stat Package: "1,904 yards passing, 17 TDs, 11 INTs, 880 yards rushing, 12 TDs."
Track-And-Field Exploits: "I run the open 100 meters in 11.1 and I run on the 4x100 and 4x200 relay teams. We made regional in the 4x100."
More Numbers to Consider...
Weight Room Numbers: "350 Bench, 265 Incline, 430 Squat, 265 Power Clean."
Academics: "3.2 GPA, 1660 SAT (990 math/reading)."

Webb is listed as a Top 12 ATH in the Texas 300 in this year's Dave Campbell's Texas Football.

Is this a joke? A 990? I knew people that got rejected from there with higher stats AND we were at the #2 HS in the nation.

Just noticed this but a track athlete and benches 350 as a 200 lb Junior? Thats a pretty impressive feat for a guy his size at that age. Soon to be a safety maybe?
I don't think we're recruiting him as a QB. From what I've read he projects to FS or WR. And apparently our coaches are very high on him.
Regarding his SAT score, like everyone else's, our standards are somewhat, umm, more flexible for athletes than for most applicants. (Ditto for music and architecture majors.) The way his score is split is somewhat surprising, but the total of 1660 is respectable. That puts him around the 70th percentile according to wikipedia.
Good luck on the field and in recruiting, except against Rice of course.
