I honestly am starting to think you guys are delusional. When you watch SMU play it is actually embarrassing. The rest of C-USA seems to be playing top programs tough but when we play a "top" program in Tech we look like a middle school team.
Any decent team would have beaten TCU last week. We beat them in almost every important stat category yet we could not find a way to be in the game late.
Why should programs like UCF, Marshall, and ECU be able to play top teams in the nation tough and we can't even compete with Ark. St? Its pathetic. Im tired of hearing about the death penalty excuse. It was 20 years ago. Other programs seem to have no problem recovering from irrelevance. Look at TCU for instance.
Phil Bennet has had his chance. Now it is time to go.

You do realize that Marshall lost to New Hampshire and is sitting nice and pretty at 0-4, right? ECU got embarrassed 48-7 to WVU last week. UCF is doing pretty good though, I must admit.
I'm not saying that we shouldn't be competitive with Tech or that we shouldn't have won the game at TCU. That is where we should be, but right now we aren't there. Let the season play out and then, and only then, if we aren't where we want to be, roast Bennett.

Someone needs to say that Texas is not the beginning or end. SMU is a National University. Just like Notre Dame. I read somewhere that PB wants to recrut from about a 300 mile radius. What about CA,MI,AZ,FLA, NY, and the rest of the country?

yeah, lets let another season play out against terrible teams and, if we can squeeze out some close ones, all jump on the PB is going in the right direction band wagon so we can sit through this another 2-3 years.
PB is out - win or lose.

One Accomplisment
The only good thing Phil has done here is to get us off the Bottom 10. Phil has only had one season better than the last season Mike Cavan had when he was fired. What has the hiring of Bennett and the firing of Cavan truly accomplished? Are we further along because of that move? "The Commitment", "In Your Face Football" billboards, promises, promises. The best move we have had since then was to change AD's.
I was in Phil's office before his first season started. The man wouldn't even return the effort to shake my hand. I knew right then he was not the man for a head coach at any D-1 university. I still stick to my guns 5 years later. Nothing but empty promises and disappointments coupled with arguments on the field. I must say the fires that burned the end zone at his opener against Navy were prophetic.
I like SMU, but I have never liked Bennett. The kids here deserve a mentor, not a commodity trader.

agreed. he should be fired alone on the way that we start out every single season the same: as losers. he may not be the sole problem, in fact i'm sure he's not, but he certainly isn't part of the solution if the best he has to show for the seasons he's been here is o-fers or practically o-fers in september. new coach a nirvana? not necessarily. any nirvana for us? not necessarily. but keep him because of that? nah, don't think steve o thinks so no matter how many wins we end up with.
