This has to rank in the top 10 of absurd "professional" articles I have seen, but hey after all that has gone down in the last month I'm ready to believe anything.

Re: Absurd article?
I assume this was written in jest, but as long as we're having fun...let's play this one out.
Bama and Ky join Miami in the ACC, leavng the BE to find a replacement for Miami. They lure Penn State back with promises that they will return to glory as the "king pin" of that conference, not to mention getting to play closer to home. This also returns the Big 10 to it's appropriate number of members.
The SEC, seeking two replacements, invite UT and A$M, who can't say no to the $$$ the SEC earns.
The Big 8 decides to follow the Big 10 and return to yesteryear, ousting TTech and Baylor, who join SMU, TCU, Houston & Rice to revive the SWC. We add Tulsa & UNT to form an 8 member league.
CUSA, looking to backfill behind the loss of two members and also wanting to become a 12 member football league, looks to invite 3 schools, picking from Marshall, La Tech, C.Fla & Navy (after all, you can't call yourself CUSA without the Academies).
Life remains the same for the WAC and SBC, who are simply trying to survive with whatever membership is available.
It's fun to play with all the "what ifs?" and this guy appears to be having fun with this. As an optimist for SMU's future, it's fun to spin things our way. Would this be a great way to get most of the old SWC teams back together, or what?

Since we are having fun, how about this...
SMU-TCU, Army-Navy, Rice-Tulane announce they are starting a private school league.
The six schools approach Syracuse, Boston College, Miami and Notre Dame about membership; giving BC and Syracuse a way to save face, and Notre Dame a way to avoid the Big East Alliance mess.
The new 10-school league then announces it will enter into talks with Northwestern and Vanderbilt.
All accept invites and we have a Private School league...
NBC decides that with a $2.2B investment in the Olympics, it can't afford Notre Dame anymore... ND joins the league for football.
NORTH
Northwestern-Notre Dame
Army-Navy
Boston College-Syracuse
SOUTH
SMU-TCU
Rice-Tulane
Vanderbilt-Miami
DMAs:
New York, Chicago, Dallas, Washington, Boston, Houston, Miami, New Orleans, Nashville... not bad.

Re: Absurd article?
perhaps we could also invite Cambridge and Oxford to join the conference to compete in rowing since we are throwing out completely impossible scenarios. That might make the Private School Conference superior to Ivy League Rowing which might lead to a huge Public Broadcasting Network contract!!!!!!!!
