Sometimes the football gods are on our side. The University of Tulsa will need those bejerseyed deities to make it to the Conference USA championship ├â┬ó├óΓÇÜ┬¼├óΓé¼┬¥ but the gridiron gods help only those who help themselves.

Thanks to the win against Tulane, TU is now bowl eligible. But we still have games to play against Houston, Army and Rice. To represent the West Division in the C-USA Championship, TU has to win the rest of the season.

The one roadblock will be the division-leading Houston Cougars.

Both Houston and Rice are in the West Division. Houston has a 5-1 record and Rice is 2-3 in conference play. Being second (4-2) in the division is not a bad position for TU ├â┬ó├óΓÇÜ┬¼├óΓé¼┬¥ but when playing the number one team, the stakes are high.

Offensively, we have the quarterback and Houston has the running back and wide receiver. Paul Smith is ranked third in the nation for total offense and points responsible. He ranks fourth in passing yards.

Houston was left in a quarterback bind when Kevin Kolb left. Blake Joseph, Houston├â┬ó├óΓÇÜ┬¼├óΓÇ₧┬ós quarterback, is the C-USA leader in efficiency but does not approach Smith├â┬ó├óΓÇÜ┬¼├óΓÇ₧┬ós finesse and skill.

Anthony Alridge, the Cougar running back, is sixth in the nation for all-purpose running yards. Donnie Avery, the wide receiver, leads C-USA in receptions and receiving yards. He is fourth in the nation in total receiving yards and fifth for receiving yards per game.

Our Jamad Williams proved himself as a running back in the Tulane game when he gained 153 yards on 31 carries. Tarrion Adams, Cameron Clemons and Charles Clay round out TU├â┬ó├óΓÇÜ┬¼├óΓÇ₧┬ós offense.

With strong offensive squads on both sides, defense will be key. TU├â┬ó├óΓÇÜ┬¼├óΓÇ₧┬ós defense has improved considerably from its weak season opening ├â┬ó├óΓÇÜ┬¼├óΓé¼┬¥ surprising considering Coach Graham was defensive coordinator under Steve Kragthorpe.

To win this game, the defense must be on point and watch Houston├â┬ó├óΓÇÜ┬¼├óΓÇ₧┬ós running game. TU pulled an amazing defensive set when they held SMU at the one yard line. Plays like that will win the game for TU.

TU often seems to play just hard enough to win. In this game, that will not do. TU has to play good, hard, consistent football to pull down a victory over Houston and a trip to the C-USA Championship game.

sorry i didn't see the initial post, but if i was a she and not a he, wouldn't I be saying "That's what I say..."?!
