1. The best fit that Orsini believes will revive the program

3. The best fit that Orsini believes will revive the program
In other words, I will refrain from speculation on this board as to who I want as coach and who would be the best fit here.
After thinking about this last night, I can only tell you he's not on the hot names being thrown out there.

Think you've got me confused with the Keeper of the Star who has been more of an advocate of Mason than I have. I said I was intrigued by Mason, but after thinking about it -- No and it won't happen.

Ya know after reading PonyFans I change my mind almost daily.
Today, this morning,....lol....... I am leaning towards Gary Barnett.
Barnett has dealt with similiar academics at Northwestern in
a much tougher conference and had great success.
Barnett is 61 years old, so if he turned SMU around in 2-3 years
would he really "bail" to take another job when he would be
approaching 65 years old?
Barnett is a proven Div 1 head coach.
Barnett would be known across the country and
would give SMU some instant credibility.
Poeple would say, "looks like they got serious".
And Barnett is interested in SMU, who knows
if these other characters have any interest.
So my top 3 choices as of today would be:
#1. Gary Barnett
#2. Terry Bowden
#3. Rick Neuheisel

i think Turner Gill should be in the mix here as well. I know he's not a "sexy" name, but he would be a great fit. He's turned around a Buffalo program, he is an incredible recruiter, has ties to Texas and SMU, and a Nebraska pedigree as well.
And i hate to play the race card, but hiring a black coach would be a PR dream for a school with a snobby reputation.

I think that Turner Gill could easily be my first choice, except for the time it would take to get him in here. If we are not going to hire until mid December, he certainly ranks high with me. If we are going to hire now and I mean this week, which would help with recruiting, we obviously need one of the others mentioned including Fran. But Gill could be a great pick up if we wait.

Here is mine
1. Neuheisel <-- recruiting and gambling violations
2. Bowden <-- undisclosed violations
3. Barnett <-- recruiting and sexual misconduct (players) violations
4.Franchione <-- recruiting and general bad judgement violations
Is this your Top 3 / 4 that can get SMU the 2nd death penalty?
