Rice QB told ref time out

Post by Pony in SA »

This probably old news, but lunch mtg. again with relative of Rice QB Chase Clement. Said positive things about our stadium, most of our fans, etc. I told him I was proud of Chase and Dillard being San Antonio kids and sorry again we didn't think it was important to recruit down here.

He said he wasn't sure about time at end of game either, but Chase was instructed to tell the Referee Rice wanted timeout as soon as play was over and that Chase and a Rice coach were telling the officials that. Still have a question when the runner stopped and play was over, but apparently Rice did tell the officials they wanted a timeout.

does a player or coach have a right to reserve a timeout ahead of time?

I still question a coach that runs the ball with 8 seconds on the clock.

Agreed. Why they ran it, I don't know. I probably would not have taken that chance when already in FG range.

At least someone on their staff though had a plan or was thinking to know they had to get a quick timeout. Anyone confident we would have done same thing ?

Really the only question is how much time was on the clock when the play was blown dead. As I understand Bennet's position, he believes the clock hit 00 with the player still fighting for yards. A moot point at this juncture.

No. They were just making sure the refs would be looking for one - and maybe blow an early whistle? :)

I'm sure the officials enjoyed the nice bottle of Scotch they bought with the money from Rice.

ehhh, i'd give rice a break on the run-play with 8 sec left...with our defense it'd be easy to get sucked in and over zealous
