I agree. Steve K. sucks major.............. The part of the argument I don't get is some people would rather Steve K. over Bowden if they could choose.

I don't think I have seen anyone say that, just that Kragthorpe wouldn't be such a bad alternative.
While a don't disagree with you, I think you have to look at it in comparison to what we have done in the past. Rossley, Cavan, and Bennett have been "who" type of hires. To go from them to a guy like Steve K, who would leave Louisville, a BCS school and a major up and coming program for SMU, the worst 1-A team over the last 25 years....well, amongst college football coaches, media, and hardcore fans, that would be a "Wow" type of hire. Does it "wow" the casual fan....not really. Image it if you are Steve K, I won at a mid major at Tulsa and got a BCS job at Louisville, taking over for a guy who got the HC job with the Falcons, and inheriting a top 10 program that is on the rise....and after one year I quit to go to SMU,
Steve Kregthrope? I don't think this guy is Orsini's Coach. He's a good offensive coach but fact is Todd Graham was really the guy who made the staff. Kregthrope is having a horrible year at Louisville. I saw his teams get their butts beat by Burns & Bennett twice. The guy is another Fran who when he lost his good dc, he started down hill. Kregthrope is about the worst candidate being mentioned. I think he would be a HUGE MISTAKE.
you've said this three times. Yes Graham was the star recruiter-but Kragthorpe was the Offensive Genius-and Tulsa won on OFFENSE not defense. He called the plays himself which won those games.
You guys want the Coach not the Recruiter-what's the problem. I would think he would be at the top of your list. At least, give Kragthorpe credit for running a very good even Championship offense. 7th in the Country this year and 24th in the Country last year. He is running a Pro style Offense-is a former NFL Coach, is thought of as one of the best QB Coaches in America. Remember Killian at Tulsa-took him from 6 Man Football and turned him into a an All-CUSA QB and Pro Prospect. The current QB at Tulsa was groomed by Kragthorpe into an All-CUSA QB.
I'll say right now that Kragthorpe is a better offensive Coach than anybody SMU is likely to get, If he's the man then go spend some money on a Defensive Coordinator. The problems at Louisville are all defensive related-big deal no Coach really can be a genius on both sides of the ball so get over it.
I think many of this board have some rather unrealistic expectations for this search and I don't think many are giving him his dues at least as a Coach. That being said he's not in my Top 5 choices. I have a feeling those 5 choices probably aren't interested in SMU or SMU rejected them. I wonder if Gill isn't still an alternative. But Kragthorpe is better-much better than previous choices. He went to 3 Bowls, won CUSA Championship, Title Game and Bowls games at Tulsa while SMU and Bennett sat home with that pretty new Stadium and pristine facilities. Tulsa had nothing and went 1-10 the year before he got there.
I think that if it is Kragthorpe that getting a coach with 4 years remaining on a 5 year contract at a BCS school to leave without being fired and take the head coaching job at ONE OF THE LOWEST RATED FOOTBALL SCHOOLS IN THE NATION would be enough to qualify as a Wow factor.
There comes a time we have to admit to where we have fallen and try our best to pick up what pieces are remaining and build ourselves back up.
That said, I have been a fan of Barnett/Gill/Bowden not necessarily in that order, but I could live with Kragthorpe/Fran/Nutt/or even Morriss if that is where we have to go to get the ship righted.
Kragthorpe just doesn't make any sense. He's been there for a year. He's got a good contract. He is close friends with the AD - Tom Jurich. Why would he leave a BCS conference after one year? There is no way SMU can offer him a LOT more $$ than he is making now - and if they wanted to - they'd be crazy to begin with. Louisville was projected to win the Big East and possibly play for the championship this year - obviously that didn't happen. I'm not saying he's not a good coach - and if he was still at Tulsa, or somewhere else, it might make sense. It just doesn't add up to me.
If Kragthorpe is the guy, we should be very happy. Petrino didn't leave him much on defense, and that is where they have had their problems. Stallion, does Louisville have a good list of commitments so far? I haven't looked, but I bet they do.
