It's beginning to look a lot like Butch Davis

Post by Blue Horseshoe »

* A former BCS Bowl (sugar) winner (Miami w/ his guys)
* A former NFL head coach
* A current BCS head coach
* Recruited in Texas (Oklahoma State WR/TE Coach)
* Has great pedigree (Jimmy Johnson - OK State, Miami, Dallas Cowboys)
* Can garner instant credibility in the metroplex and the state
* Known as a champion in the NFL and NCAA
* He and his wife love Dallas
* Has the type of character that satisfies Turner
* Orsini and him go back from 1989-1994 to their days in the Cowboy organization (Orsini was the director of administration)
* One could assume his loyalties are to college football as opposed to the NFL

This guy could be here for a long time! I don't think this a stretch by any sense of the imagination!!!

It's definitely the Butler, in the Conservatory, with the Candlestick!...the Orsini mystery solved! Welcome Butch Davis...

I agree...everything Dwan and Thad have been saying, along with the "rumors" on the Boulevard this week that Orsini had him last year, coupled with the fact that he knows and likes the area point to him.

Only problem is, why leave UNC after just a year???

If we do get him, at least there's some precedent for a coach coming from UNC to the state of Texas and doing well....

If so, this would be an unbelievable hire. The guy moved mountains at Miami.
It's a crappy job but someone's gotta do it.

With Orsini you never know.

Would not be surprised to see this happen.

From Phil Bennett to Butch Davis would be a "WOW".

Plus he makes $1.8 million; that's a lot of buyout.

Not happening if the following is true for a few reasons. 1) we're looking to spend about $1.2 - he's making $1.8. 2) he's got to pay off the balance of his contract (or whoever hires him does - we don't have that kind of money).

The Charlotte New & Observer blog gets the deets on Tarheels head coach Butch Davis's contract and -- contrary to internet rumors -- the UNC coach does not have an "out clause" for Arkansas, Miami or any other university.

A UNC spokesman confirmed that Davis does not have an out nor are there addendums to the contract that would allow the first-year coach to leave for Arkansas, his alma mater, or any other school without a financial penalty.

According to the report, Davis's seven-year contract is worth about $1.86 million/year. If he leaves UNC to take another coaching position, the buyout escalates every year - ranging from $700K to up to $2 million.
Davis signed a seven-year contract worth about $1.86 million annually in Nov. 2006.
Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally

Why would Davis consider SMU when Nutt's departure opens the door for him to return to his alma mater?

I agree with you on how much it could possibly take to buy out the contract. I also wonder if there could be a set of conditions in which we would not have to buy out or have some serious discounting on his contract if it were a school from a non bcs conference?

It's a possibility, but I don't know how likely...

ANUTTER 1 Down

Not that we didn't know it but Arkansas now has an opening.

Houston Nutt leaked through some of his friendly reporters today that he has 4 offers but the jobs still have coaches so he waiting to see. I say he has offers, Baylor and SMU. Take the SMU gig, you'll thank me for it. Nutt leaked this info to attempt to drive his price up in upcoming negotiations. HE IS NOT ALREADY SIGNED WITH BAYLOR. It is a distinct possibility but he has not signed a deal. Georgia Tech and Central Florida are still on his radar

It seems that as of right now Arkansans for Butch are going to have to do without. Jeff Long has to establish total indpendence from the BOT members so that means no Butch. I don't blame Long here, he is just coming off a situation where Dave Wanndstedt, booster favorite, was shoved down his throat and it backfired. But Mr. Long, Butch is the best man for this job.
(disclaimer: not saying Butch is completely out, but the entire BOT is going to have to be on board, not likely)

With the timing of this though, this puts Bo Pelini back in the mix. Can Jeff Long stike his deal before the others get their mits on him? This will be a wild ride

I stand by my list of candidates as there are no new candidiates at this time. Bill Cowher will not coach the hogs.

Congratulations hog fans
