Singletary Turns Baylor Down-Hard
Probably not great for SMU on certain candidates. Took a shot at Baylor's lack of commitment too. COMMITMENT FROM THE UNIVERSITY-Read it, Learn it Know it.
Here ya go folks, Scout scooped everyone on it, and the way this reads MS was told to take a hike.
Mike Singletary Will Not Be Baylor's 25th Head Football Coach
Updated: Nov 22, 2007 12:12am
Sports Director Kris Radcliffe Spoke With Singeltary Late Wednesday night and the NFL Hall of Famer Will Not Take the coaching Job at Baylor.
Mike Singletary met with Baylor Director of Athletics Ian McCaw on the "West Coast" on Monday. Singletary asked for some time to think about where God wanted him to be.
In a phone conversation with Radcliffe Singletary said that it wasn't a matter of turning down the Baylor job or even a matter of the job being offered. He stated that there were a few things that he would want, and need, as a College Football Head Coach. Singletary stressed that if he went into college coaching he wasn't looking to win 6 or 7 games a season and get to a "bowl game." He would want to compete at the highest level for a national championship. He also said that Baylor was the one college that he would love to coach at.
With all that said he ended the conversation by saying that he wanted to finish what he's started in San Francisco.
Our very own Kris Radcliffe wished Singletary only the best and continued success and he said, "Thanks and that Baylor was a very special place."

Unless you played basketball there under former SMU coach Dave Bliss.

"...Singletary stressed that if he went into college coaching he wasn't looking to win 6 or 7 games a season and get to a "bowl game." He would want to compete at the highest level for a national championship..."
I guess you're right. That does say it all. I guess you can lump SMOOOO into that category. as well. That, by itself, will exclude most all your better coaches from taking any inkling of interest in our position - or theirs.
Of course our double-whammy is that we're not a member of the BCS-BS Cartel which holds us back that much more.
BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!
For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.

The only way a school "outside" the BCS gets to the National Championship game is to go unbeaten for at least 2-3 years scheduling as tough a non-conference slate as possible. It can be done...just HIGHLY unlikely it ever will be done. If Boise St had followed up it's win over OU by going undefeated this year, they would make another BCS game, but they would have to come back next year and go unbeaten again with a much tougher non-conference schedule. The simple fact is that Hawaii has nowhere near the talent as several teams ranked behind them in the polls.

Is that what some of the elite "wows" say about us?
Come on Turner....turn the mob boss loose and let him get his man!

C-ya @ Milos!
In another writeup, Singletary said he "knows what a nat'l championship looks like."
Say, how many did they win down there at Baylor?
Oh, that's right. None.
Did he coach on a nat'l championship team? Nope, at least not written about in his wikipedia writeup.
So I guess we can all similarly say we "know what a nat'l championship looks like."
As far as coaching, Morriss had more skins than Singletary before coming from Kentucky, IMO.

I don't think that's just your opinion. It's a fact, Jack. Morriss wasn't a bad hire when they got him, in fact it was a great hire (now that is in my opinion) at the time. Why he left Kentucky.... for Baylor... I will never know.
