Jerry Moore

Post by MrMustang1965 »

Hire Jerry Moore (Appalachian State). He's about to win his 3rd straight Div. 1 FCS national title.

Prior to his arrival at ASU, Moore served as a head coach at North Texas (1979-80) and Texas Tech (1981-85). In 24 overall seasons as a head coach, Moore is 167-115-2. He also spent 15 successful seasons as a well-respected assistant coach under coaching legends Hayden Fry at SMU (1965-72), Tom Osborne at Nebraska (1973-7eight) and Ken Hatfield at Arkansas (1988).

Before beginning his coaching career as an assistant at Corsicana H.S. in Corsicana, Texas from 1961-64, Moore enjoyed a prolific playing career. He finished among the nation’s top 10 in receptions as a wide receiver at Baylor from 1958-60. He was a team captain for the 11th-ranked Bears as a senior and graduated from Baylor with a degree in finance and economics in 1961.

A native of Bonham, Texas, Moore was an all-state performer on the gridiron and earned 14 varsity letters in four sports at Bonham H.S. He is a member of the Bonham Athletics Hall of Fame.

I think this is a great idea.
Coach Moore: "Hi, Mom" "Hi, Dad"
Dad: "Hey aren't you that guy who beat Michigan"

I like it.

I was thinking about this the other day too.

Anyone know what his salary is? I bet we could get him relatively cheap, and then give him the $ to hire a crack team of assistants.

Do you even know a thing about Jerry Moore other than they beat Michigan? He's not a Division 1A Coach-he has the personality of Oatmeal.

Wrong. He IS a Div. 1A coach. Div 1A FCS. Have you met the man?

In his 17th year at Appalachian State, Moore is earning $100,000 annually.

Interesting comment in the same article where this info came from:

Moore has had chances to leave for bigger programs. He won't cite specific schools but says he has listened to a few offers.

"I've coached at the I-A level, and I could have gone back at least a couple of times," he says. "But since I've been here, I haven't been offered a job I want more than this one.

Radio interview with Jerry Moore following the Appalachian State win over Michigan. He has more personality than PB, IMO! Mentions SMU's Raymond Berry during the interview, too! ;)

I've probably seen more Jerry Moore coached football games at SMU and Tech than any one of this board

Great coach, but its worth noting that he's about 900 years old. And why would he leave App St. anyway.

The idea that a D-1 coach needs "personality" is extremely overrated. Bob Stoops has absolutely no personality. Fran, wow, his personality is just magnetic. George Welsh was literally famous for having no personal charisma. If star quality is the criteria for coaching D-1, why don't we hire Matthew McConaughey or somebody.
