Their drinking the Dodge kool-aid, but then again, why would any kid want to come to SMU until a coach is named. SMU will be left with the recruiting scraps that no other school wants. The only good thing is with the injuries last year and some Freshmen having to play, we should actually have a more experienced team.

That is like saying NTSU is kicking our butt in track right now. We do not have a track team and we do not have a "recruiting" team. I will say that things do not look good right now especially from what I had hoped would be a loosened restriction JC signing period, but lets get a coach and then we can change our gripe mode from the coaching search to our pitiful recruiting.
When has SMU ever lit up the recruiting trails post death penatly era? The win loss record is directly attributed to SMU's lack of success in recruiting. A big negative with SMU (as I continually harp on this board) is the inability to attract transfers and Juco players due to SMU's unwillingness to accept the credit hours. SMU also does a horrible job at attracting DISD recruits. Fix those two areas and SMU's win loss record will improve overnight.

Actually, we lit it up during PB's 1st real recruiting class, 10 3-Stars if I am not mistaken.
It was PB's honeymoon period, which we are currently losing THIS year.
Without JC help, we could very well stink it up on the field next year with our new HC losing some of his recruiting momentum, much like PB did once the losses started piling up for him.
That is what I most don't understand about this delay.

PB was able to sell some recruits on the idea that he was going to turn things around. He did not have losses on his resume at SMU at the time that would dispute that selling point. The same did not hold true after a year.
The new coach will not have a significant amount of time to sell the same story. If he has a limited amount of time prior to signing day he will get the scraps. If he does not win some games next year with the "talent" we have he will have the losses to counter his selling points. This delay is setting him up to fail unless he catches lightning in a bottle and wins some games next year.

North Texas recruiting
Coach Dodge stated that recruiting the Dallas Ft Worth metroplex was
a high priority. Looks like he is proving the point.
Last count, I believe, shows 10 kids from the Dallas Morning News top
100 metroplex D1 recruits have given their verbal to Coach Dodge.
For the Houston Chronical's top 100 area D1 recruits, I believe
Coach Dodge has 2 commitments off the Chronical's list.
Last year, Coach Dodge only had 3 weeks to put a class together.
Coach Dodge and his staff completed a great class, signing 18 kids.
Interesting point with these kids is, half of these true freshman played
or started in all NT games last year, gaining valuable college game
experience. The other half of the 2007 class, Coach Dodge red shirted.
Honestly, I do think the current situation with the HFC search is hurting your recruiting efforts right now. Even after a HFC is hired, the new coach must put togeher a staff, then hit the recruiting trails. Recruiting succes
will be based on who the next HFC will be. The number reason a kid signs
with any school is the HFC and his staff.

Its very difficult for me to see UNT showing great progress in both men's football & basketball. There is much to look forward to in Denton.
Looking @ SMU, the statement can be made that they may have the worst combination of men's football & basketball in major college sports.
That's the reality. They are doing it & you can see the progress.
I see no signs of progress in the SMU men's basketball team & the football team coaching situation is confusing. Yes SMU beat UNT this year in football but remember the year before.
IMO, this is extremely embarrassing for SMU.
I hold out hope that SO will make a good hire. I have serious doubts about the Doh hire. Not just based on this year, but last year & previous years.
SO needs to hit a home run.

my point completely. honeymoon periods are very important. every coach has one, even Bennett. Cant artifically shorten the honeymoon by taking the first year of recruiting away.
