UH Reportedly Offered 1.1 Million
Unconfirmed report-I thought they would need to offer at least 1.2 Million to have a chance-not a very strong offer if true.

I think more importent than the Jones money is the Assistant money. He seems to actually care about them and they seem to be severly under paid. I do not think he is going to accept a big increase from UH without the Assistants getting more also. I think that is the advantage that we have along with the facilities.

I agree. I hope they'll all join him here.

Jones would be a great get for SMU. Friend of mine coaches at A&M and said that Fran was the least liked coach in the athletic department at A&M. That has to get around.
Also, few if any coaches run Jones' offense. He will have to adjust to the more rigorous requirements at SMU, but the athletes he has here would be better than he had at UH. Would be interesting to see if SMU can get him what type of staff he could hire. Not many quality free agents out there right now.

If Hawaii is only willing to offer 1.1 million, it seems highly unlikely that they're going to put up the money needed to upgrade facilities there.
I think the fact that Jones is coming here for an interview after hearing the UH offer is extremely telling. I think he wants to see our facilities first-hand before he says yes. Everything indicates SMU's facilities are far superior to UH. Perhaps that's all it will take to seal the deal.

an offer of 1.1 mil to JJ would do nothing for him. some of his assistant coaches are making next to nothing, particularly by hawaii cost of living standards. he knows he can get the money and has been rounding up his troops. SMU appears to be offering not only double the money, but SUBSTANTIAL increases in the salaries of his staff.
