i just heard that Jerry was in the Circle of Champions. i didn't believe it, but i only know the first 12 members, and then at the hiring heard that the number was up to 20.
I was told that he "ponied up" in an effort to help steer the SMU v. TCU game towards the new stadium in Arlington in anticipation of our improvement and how the rivalry would have a bigger draw than in years past with both teams being competitive.
anyone else hear anything along these lines?
(for the record, i am calling b.s. until i hear from my contact in the athletic dept. confirming

At the moment, both schools don't fill up the on campus stadiums. If TCU remains highly competitive in MWC and we return to prominence then it is a maybe at best.
I would rather expand Ford Stadium to 45K, keep the change and host the CUSA Championship Game every year (or rotate it with UCF).
Let's fill Ford to 32K and then "complete the horseshoe". Nice.

sweet idea to play TCU every year at Jerry World. That would be great for recruiting for both programs. Its gonna be the best stadium in the world, for at least awhile, not much doubt about that. The Dallas Cowboys hurt local college football in a lot of ways, this would be a way we could actually benefit from the image of playing where the Cowboys play. You'd only lose a home game every two years. Not a big deal.

Frankly, I have no desire to watch SMU play at Jerry World!
Getting into that stadium is going to be ridiculous...current roadways are nowhere capable of handling the traffic that will be generated on gamedays - whether it's the Cowboys, UT/OU, TT/A&M or SMU/TCU.
College games should be played ON CAMPUS! 'Nuff said.

there are exceptions. Playing at Jerry World has benefits for the program, if not the fans.

dont get me started. One of the biggest short sighted gaffes of all time. Losing the Dallas Cowboys to Arlington when you needed something, make that anything to help revitalize downtown, south of downtown or fair park. Dallas made a 50 year mistake that may never be able to be fixed.

Simple...two women mayors, the first let the Ballpart go to Arlington and the second let Jones join them. Annette Straus was concerned about the paypack period and providing subsidies to a private enterprise (baseball) even if revitalizing downtown with 80 or so games. I believe the Ballpark paid off its indebtedness within 40% of the original projection period. Laura Miller simply hated any business plan and wanted a bridge named after herself!

"lost out" by refusing to even consider it. JJ wanted it here, they wouldn't even put it to a taxpayer vote. City Council decided that they knew what was best. funny that most of them are gone now. worthless sacs of something.
and to address other replys. I don't like the idea of this game in Arlington. we haven't been selling out GJF or Amon Carter. if we start to, great. but i think this idea turns the schools' backs on their fans and season ticket holders for not much gain. i actually questioned how this even makes sense for the stadium ownership regarding a $500k investment in SMU's coach and the likelihood of a return even near that IF both schools agreed to that.

Laura Miller did not want to help Jerry finance his stadium.
Laura Miller is an idiot.
Agreed. She did the City a big disservice not keeping the Dallas Cowboys in Dallas.
