Tech's Great Defense

Post by GoRedGoBlue »

Texas Tech's pass defense numbers in 2002 were higher than the Big 12 average:

Subject.........INT.....Yds. allowed....TD allowed...Yds. per game
Big 12 average..14.9....2,732...18......211.3
Texas Tech......16......3,354...26......239.6

"Two years ago, which was the last time Tech entered preseason practice with two help-wanted signs at cornerback, Joselio Hanson took one down immediately. Practically from the first day, Hanson established himself as the team's best.

This time, it's more muddled.

Returnees Marcus Boyd, SirDon Lewis, Tim Norman and Jamaal Jackson have mixed with newcomers Jabari Smith, Antonio Huffman, Chad Johnson and Chris Parker in an eight-man competition. All eight are getting chances.

Brown says he wants to test them all and see who reacts best.

Right now, Boyd seems to be presenting the best case. The senior from Lubbock High finished spring as a first-team corner and has held on to the job because he doesn't make many mistakes"
