Just got back from the reception. Koncak deserves to have his number retired, 1st in rebounding and 3rd in scoring in his career, during an era where SMU was ranked nationally and beat the likes of Kentucky, Louisville, Duke, and North Carolina.
Ira was at the reception, which was a classy move. Orsini made a reference that there is a committee now that will review player credentials yearly for new admittance to the rafters, so Ira will be up there soon.
The retirement ceremony will take place at halftime of the UAB game. Hope to see a good crowd.

Glad to hear that. SMU athletics has been asleep at the wheel too long now. Two thumbs up for the Mob Boss...Orsini.gregkinzer wrote:Ira was at the reception, which was a classy move. I was always confused while I was playing there why we didnt have one jersey retired. I think they retired Krebs number in 2001 or so....only after the women's program retired Kennedy's number.
Gene Philips and Ira are the two most likely choices remaining....Maybe Sasser in a few years?
It is basically the Mustang B-ball HOF.

And what exactly did Sasser do to have his jersey retired?

I hope you guys see the humor in this feature that was linked from TY on Deadspin: http://deadspin.com/361359/one-rich-commish (fifth bullet down.) I know you think we are soul-sucking trolls, but if you can't laugh at NT and SMU, what can you laugh at?
If it helps, NT is still waiting to induct our first NBA-style white stiff and probably will be for years if it helps. Now, if anyone needs me, I'll be getting the burgers nice and warm at Wendy's until my next post!
