Congrats to UTA. They are dancing for the first time ever. Representing the Metroplex.

Even better - somewhere in Fort Worthless, Neil Daugherty is telling a recruit (who won't play for him because he's going to get canned) "Son, if you come play for us, we're trying to be as good as UTA."

While Matt is going to get canned anytime soon, wouldn't he be telling recruits the same thing? Hard to believe that NTSU and UTA have been to the NCAA's more in the last 10 years than our own mens team has..........

OK, Daugherty can tell his recruits that "one day, we hope to be as good as SMU," too. After all, our season had every bump in the road that we all expected, and we still beat them. Coach Doherty has basically had one recruiting class. We'll get better - a lot better. They won't, at least not with their current coaches, and I'm totally OK with that. Congrats to UTA.

Dont be surprised if UNT, SFA, and Sam Houston St. all get into the NIT, or the new CBI tournament. This was a strong year for both the Sunbelt and the Southland.

Hey X, do you really think that CBI tournament is going to fly? I've heard coaches say either (A) they don't know what it is, or (B) they wouldn't put their teams through that. There's 65 teams in the NCAA, and how many in the NIT? 64 more? Or is it 48?

Either way, that's a lot of expense for a school to jump up and down screaming "we're No. 130!"

This year, yes, it'll fly. Wether it can remain financially viable depends on how this year goes. Are there enough teams with fanbases that will be enthusiastic to see there team continue playing after a mediocre season? That's what they're depending on.

NIT invites 48 teams, I believe, and CBI 16, so it's a total of 128 post season teams.

Thanks for all the classy posts and good wishes for our coach and team.

We all know what it means to go against the towering giants of #1 seed Memphis, but that's okay. We are freakin' IN-IN-IN. That's what counts. The publicity in today's DMN and Star-Telegram is a beautiful thing for Maverick fans. I love the color pic of Scott Cross cutting the nets at the top of the front page of the DMN. Men and boys across the beautiful USA are seein' "UT Arlington" in their March Madness pick 'em contests.

Hence forth and forever more the sports reporters can no longer write, "never been to NCAA tournament in school history." That's over. Finished.

Good luck to Scott Cross and the entire Maverick squad. Play hard; you have nothing to lose.

Again, thanks for the nice posts. I'll be rootin' for SMU when the time comes, which it will. The sky is the limit for SMU b-ball.

You're welcome, and good luck. We know all too well how tough Memphis is, but regardless of that, this is your schools chance to showcase itself in front of a national audience. Good luck to you.
