'Splain it to me please

Post by mrydel »

How does Junior Day work (what goes on) and how is it going to tie in with the Spring game? I find it interesting they are doing both on the same day. Do the kids do anything but stand around and watch the game or are they performing or working out in some manner? Anyone got the scoop?

I didn't look too closely at the schedule for them but I know they come in in the morning, are introduced to the staff, get hauled around to the weight room and the facilities, get a nice 'come to smu' speech from the coaches, probably get fed and then the game. That's a pretty rough explanation, I know there's more but I don't remember :)

Thanks. For some reason I thought the kids went through workouts. Do they not?

When my son was being recruited by SMU, Junior Days were for the prospective athletes to make a non official visit to SMU. If there was a football game that weekend, usually tickets and a meal were provided. They got to tour the campus, meet the coaches, meet the players and get a general feel of how life would be at SMU. They are not allowed to work out, but are allowed on the sidelines during the games, in this case..the Spring Game.

I hope this information helps.

Thank you also. I have just been wrong in my thoughts on how it is handled. I think I have it confused with the camps that the coaches hold. Hopefully the kids will see a nice crowd of us on hand for the game.

I can only assume these Junior Days will be conducted in a similar fashion to the way the big boys do it (Texas, OU, LSU) where they will invite a handful of recruits they are interested in to attend the Spring Game and essentially take a non-official visit around the campus. The ones that they feel comfortable with offering scholarships will be notified during this non-official visit. Of course I doubt we're going to walk away from our Junior Day with 10 or 11 commitments like Texas did this year (actually right now I believe Texas is sitting at 19 commitments, but they had two Jr. Days in Feb.) However I wouldn't be shocked to see us walk away from this weekend with at least a few guys in the bag.

UT probably has 4 Junior Days a month, they are so infatuated with themselves (always have been). Ever since the big 12 formed, that whole program has become so rogue and corrupt. Through their blind ambition and arrogance, they probably think in their tiny little minds, that they are actually a professional team anyway. Kind of like an NFL farm club.
That's what makes 20-6 sweet, even to this day. I HATE UT and wish nothing but failure for that school.
