JJ is bring a LOT of gear with him to Samoa

Post by Garret »

Most people here probably remember that JJ said that he was going to take a recruiting trip to Samoa this offseason. In fact, the plan is for JJ to take the trip with UH head coach McMackin.

What some may not know is that the reports out of Samoa are that JJ is bringing *6* truck loads of equipment to Samoa when he goes there to recruit! That will be huge in terms of PR and it will be a huge boost to the sporting programs of Samoa. I'm guessing there will be "SMU" and ponies on some of the equipment too.

Hawaii fans are not happy because McMackin doesn't have the budget to bring anything. So, the Samoa contacts are just mentioning that JJ is going to Samoa and McMackin wasn't even mentioned in their conversation.

Anyway, I thought I'd pass this along as something that JJ is doing that will benefit others...and benefit SMU in the process.

I've heard Coach Jones and a couple of his assistants are headed to Samoa within the next week.

Hopefully he leaves behind tons of SMU-marked gear, and brings back a few 350-pounders in exchange ... and gets more every year.

How much do you want to bet that a bunch of that gear is the old Nike gear SMU won't be using anyway? Brilliant investment, I'd say.
