Official petition thread to get rid of "Pony Up" song
To the marketing/athletic dept/events coordinator or whoever is in charge of the opening game mess:
In one word: embarrassing.
So I am sitting with the family watching the SMU band in the traditional Diamond M formation, waiting for the excitement of the players running on the field to our fight son, and then _ _ it happens. I have never seen so many confused, blank-staring, dumbfounded fans at one time. This "Bocephus wanna-be" with cheese-o-rama backup singers ruined an otherwise traditional opening to the season and game. It literally seemed like time stood still and the f-ing "song" wouldn't stop. My wife and I and others around must have made eye contact 25 times in painful discomfort as if to say "Is this really happening?" and wondering when the agony of "Pony Up" would end . Any sizzle that had been built up to that point was forever gone. The players ran on the field and my son asked "Where's the fight song?" My daughter demanded "MAKE IT STOP!" More discomfort, more fake smile - it seemed like an eternity.
So I am writing this to IMPLORE that we Never, EVER, NEVER, NEVER have that song with those "musicians" on our field again. A forced and concocted tradition, especially one that takes the place of a true tradition of the players hearing the fight song as they enter the field, has no place in our game presentation. Did I mention NEVER AGAIN?
In fairness, please invite the hat-wearing guitar man to the boulevard for drinks or send him to the closest county fair talent show. But make sure his field credentials are burned, along with the sheet music to that disaster. Flush the ashes down the toilet in Dallas Hall. Pay him whatever we promised him and never ever do this again.
We need to fill up this thread with signatures and forward it directly to whomever is in charge of this embarrassment so it may be stopped prior to the TCU game. I will personally print the thread pages and deliver it.
Sincerely yours,
SmooBoy

I'll sign whatever you need.
That was horrible.
It reminded me of something I'd see at a show in Branson, MO.
The guy was singing off key, he was singing a song that made no sense, had no flow. And he wouldn't shut up.
About 1/3 of the way through, I started saing out loud "Get this out of here".
I couldn't believe that they let the players run out while that garbage was still being played.
Please do whatever you have to do so that the guy in the hat never ever comes back and the players come out to the Fight Song in the future.
I 100% support the initiative to get rid of the old guy in the hat AND that horrible song.

I kept waiting for them to start the fight song once I saw the players coming on.....
And waited.
And waited.
And waited.
And why the hell did the players go to the other side of the field before going through the diamond M?
Go back to what it was last year. We don't need to change EVERYTHING do we?
