Ice Hockey: SMU v. Texas A&M
SMU Mustangs vs. Texas A&M Aggies.
745pm Saturday, Addison Square Garden
230pm Sunday, same place
BYOB - keep it in a cup if it's heavier than beer.
Free admission w/ student ID, $5 per person otherwise.
This is a great local opportunity for anyone to come and watch some college club hockey. A&M is a pretty darn good team and they bring a lot of fans, so it'll be a good atmosphere. You can drink, bring your own beer, and you'll be among about 100 drunk enthusiastic SMU fraternity guys. Good fun, cheap price, hard hits.
Why do you call college station a cow town? So the sheep feel safe.

hockey was roughed up 12-1 saturday night. TAMU put in 6 goals in the last 5 minutes as our spirits were crushed. I feel for our team...A&M was throwing bows all game. the support was there for the team...lots of SMU fans! The game was still a great time. Keep working hockey. See you at the next game guys!

but why kick them when they are down? do you also make fun of kids with down syndrome and beat 3 legged dogs? the smu hockey team is very talented, but they are college guys first. TAMU practices 15 hours a week. TAMU has their own rink on campus. TAMU had 4 coaches and 3 trainers. It's obvious TAMU puts a little bit more effort into hockey, where the SMU guys go out and have fun. I see nothing wrong with that.

Texas A&M brings a deep bench of reasonably talented guys. There are no individuals that will take it to you themselves, but they get you with a constant, aggressive fore check, physical play, a deep bench, and energy. They also do put more time into their program, into practicing, into conditioning. That's their choice. They also beat UT three times earlier this year, they aren't great but they aren't a bunch of candy asses.
The game was very competitive until the middle of the third period; SMU left the second period only down 4-1. The scoreboard at that point doesn't reflect it, but the team played exceedingly well after the first five minutes of the game. The team suffered from a lapse and letdown in the third period when a single goal put the game out of reach, and it snowballed from there. 12-1 isn't a pretty score, but it was not a sound, 60 minute whipping at the hands of the Aggies. It was a final five minute letdown when the game was drawing to a close.
From the Texas A&M Website: "In Dallas Saturday night, Southern Methodist held their own against the Aggies. The score was 4-1 after two periods, but the Aggies broke the game open and lit the lamp for eight goals in the third period. Dustin Roark and Eric Engelking recorded a hat-trick in the game for the Aggies. Also, rookie player Mike Zahner scored his first A&M career goal. Sunday's contest was cancelled due to Zamboni mechanical problems. The two teams will play again in three weeks in College Station, February 20 & 21 at Arctic Wolf Ice."
The Aggies are also 16-5-1, playing a longer, more difficult schedule.
The atmosphere was terrific, and big hats off to the SMU Greeks, and fans in general. They made up an awesome atmosphere, that even A&M said that they were the best fan base they had come across this season. It was really disappointing not to give them more to cheer about.
The SMU team functions a certain way, because we all want it to function that way. If we wanted to practice every single day, and condition every day, and pretend like we're something we don't want to be, than we could be.

Furthermore, you're calling out a bunch of college students who play because they still enjoy it, and like the camaraderie of the team. We also all pay our own way on top of the ungodly tuition at this school, which can be a hindrance. You don't like it, you can donate a nice big check to the team so we can buy more premium ice slots, all matching gear, build an ice rink on campus, pay for multiple coaches, and pay for all of the trips yourself. Until then, you can eat me.
But you dont want it run that way. Also you started the thread encouraging people to come out but why should they come watch 12-1, and no one cares?

Why should they support 70-45? Why should they support consecutive 1-11 seasons, or a basketball team that hasn't made an NCAA appearance since 1993. Why should they support a university that intentionally hampered the development of athletics at this school for the better part of two decades?
Yes, we do want it run that way. We don't particularly want to be like A&M and put in an exponential amount of time and money. In some ways, it's just not even feasible. It's about hockey, friends, hitting someone as hard as you legally can, and a good time, something the fans can share in. 12-1 is an anomaly and doesn't reflect the caliber of the team or the quality of the play.

Stars 10
Ny Rangers 2
--white helmet argument:
WHy do the rangers suck so badly? Maybe they should fire somebody and change the way they do things. Surely they don't need to spend 80 million to lose by 8 goals to the stars. ALl the Rangers season ticket holders should stop renewing their tickets. Why would people show up to that?
