What you need to know - This battle of Spartans features a showdown of two of St. Louis' most recent state champions. East, the defending champ in Class 5, opened the season with a 38-28 loss at CBC. In that game, East received two touchdowns each from Hasson Hamilton and Walter Powell. DeSmet, the Missouri Class 6 champion in 2005, rolled to a 38-0 victory over Mehlville in its season opener. Steve Kaiser, who has committed to SMU, threw for three touchdowns, including a pair to sophomore Durron Neal, to lead the way.
