Re: Straight From Horse's Mouth
Astonished anyone would actually believe it happened any other way.
At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
Re: Straight From Horse's Mouth
Three quick points:
1) Love the swath of empty seats shown in the photo
2) Now SMU looks like an even bigger bunch of tools, since NBC 5 went to Maddie and said "hey...did you call them or did they call you?"
3) Nothing screams small time when YOU are the one ASKING for a gift to be made to YOU. Pretty much guarantees all SMU got was the two horses, the costs incurred to care for them, and a big to-do about nothing. And even if the family THOUGHT about donating some $ to the school, I'm sure they want to distance now that the event is over.

Re: Straight From Horse's Mouth
The first sentence says they were never intended to replace Peruna...
Re: Straight From Horse's Mouth
"Because they are the Mustangs, and they did want a Mustang," she said. "They came to me, I didn't go to them -- SMU asked me to find them a Mustang
Who is they? Dr Turner or JJ or coach Schoolfield or Orsini? Wonder who?

Re: Straight From Horse's Mouth
The philanthropist who donated two mustangs to Southern Methodist University says she didn't intend for them to replace the current mascot. Madeleine Pickens, the wife of Texas billionaire T. Boone Pickens, said she just wanted to give Peruna, the university's Shetland pony, some friends. "Oh no," she said. "He's too cute. How could you replace Peruna?"
So there you have it. And another major player in this stating there was never ever a plan to replace Peruna.

As reported here two weeks ago -Stallion wrote:SMU initiated request for Cowpoke and Maybell

from cusa-fans.com:
Pickens, who made the gift through her National Wild Horse Foundation, said she was very pleased by the SMU fans’ response. "I think what you saw was an extraordinarily enthusiastic crowd. You saw what happened when the horses came out. [The crowd] went crazy. When the horses bowed it brought the house down."
Pickens said SMU approached her about finding the school "a real mustang."
"I said, ‘Sure.’ Not only did I bring them one, I brought two. It’s sort of like, you don’t want to lose your quarterback. So, just in case one’s having a bad day … we’ve got the back-up quarterback!"
Re: Straight From Horse's Mouth
I do not see why some are making a big deal out of this. Peruna is still the official mascot. If the Mustangs were going to replace Peruna as the mascott then I could see why this could present a problem for a lot of people.

The questions of note are:Billy Joe wrote:I do not see why some are making a big deal out of this. Peruna is still the official mascot. If the Mustangs were going to replace Peruna as the mascott then I could see why this could present a problem for a lot of people.
*did somebody WANT to get rid of Peruna and WHO was that?
*did it all go away only AFTER the uproar?
*and IF the WHO is JJ, will he be happy not get his way on this?

Not as big a deal now, but many of us feel that if we did not raise such a stink and threaten to turn off the money spigit then they would have replaced Peruna, at least at football games.....June had every intention of having these horses replace Peruna on the field and lead the team at the beginning.
It all changed, however, BECAUSE we made it into a big deal. Ms. PIckens and the university are now just trying to do damage control "ohh..ermmm...we were never going to replace Peruna..eh..mmm, yeah"

If they admin lies about one aspect, how can you trust them in another?VarsityShop wrote:The philanthropist who donated two mustangs to Southern Methodist University says she didn't intend for them to replace the current mascot.
