EligibilityQuestions

Post by Harry0569 »

We have not had to really worry about this affecting us since we have no played in the post season in 25 years. I have had heard whispers that some of our best players ( I do not know who) are not passing their classes, and could be ruled ineligible to play in the Hawaii Bowl.

I don't mean to put a damper on the festivities, but if some guys can't play we are in trouble.

Then let's go to the Fort Worth Bowl.

Kidding - hope everyone has his grades in order.

I think I remember someone mentioning this last week. That would be terrible if indeed a group of our players couldn't make the trip. I would feel worse for them personally than for our own chances of winning the bowl. To actually make it to a bowl and not get to go would have to be devestating for the players.

I am going to repeat what I have mentioned in earlier posts. Please, please, please do not expect a win in the Bowl game. Hope is good and Raplh I am sure will put hope on sale for the month of December, but adopt the jtstang no expectation mantra for the bowl game. These young men will be wide eyed, celebrating, taking in sights and in a completely new environment. Most likely any team they play will have been to a bowl(s) recently and be much more familiar with the publicity surrounding the festivities. Let them enjoy, and relish the moments. Look forward to the day after we have attended 2 or 3 in a row that we can murmur about Jones that "he cannot win a bowl game". Then we will know we have arrived. I am 99% a "winning is important" guy, but this is the 1% exception to the rule.

That said, I do hope all the kids will get their grades in order, if not for the bowl game, at least by next year so we are in full force wihen the new season begins. I cannot not wait for the next season to begin.

I disagree. I expect a win in a bowl game. Low or no expectations leads to little or no results.

As a player, yes. As a fan, though, Mrydel is exactly right. Just enjoy this.

Don't misunderstand me. I'm not demanding a victory, but I don't want the fans to take a laisse-faire attitude about this. Years of mediocrity (or worse) are finally over! I want our guys to be able to enjoy one more win this season. If we lose we lose, not the end of the world. I'm ecstatic for these guys and want them to enjoy the fruits of their labor.

I definitely don't expect a W with this defense against offensive teams like nevada or fresno. Enjoy the moment and build on it for the future. The important thing is long-term consistent winning, this is just part of the process. I'll be pulling for us regardless, but I won't trash the team like some will if we lose.

I am just trying to prepare for the fans that will give up on the team again if we do not win the bowl game. The sky will fall and the floods will come. Just know that the atmosphere and attitudes will be different and the preparation too. The goal this year was to get there. The future is bright.

I think you are completely misunderstanding me. What indication have I given that a bowl loss will drive me away from this program? If some fans feel that way, they're not fans after all. If it will make you happy, I'll give up all expectations going forward. And at what point did I ever say I was going to trash the team? Don't put words in my mouth (or computer screen).

I was not talking about you. You have a good attitude about the game. Just wait and read the posts if we do not win and you will see what I mean. Can you say bagice?

Oh, fair enough. Bagice did seem to quit on the team suddenly after the Marshall game. You can bet I'll be here after the bowl game, win or lose. Just wish I could be AT the bowl game!

Be prepared. MustangBill has his fares posted on Expedia.com and they are not coming down. Might be cheaper to just buy a car when you get there.
