Sterling Moore back on field ... sort of
Sterling Moore, who injured his left knee in SMU's win over UTEP, returned to the practice field Monday afternoon as the Mustangs held their first practice in preparation for the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl. While his teammates went through drills for as they get ready for SMU's first bowl appearance in 25 years, Moore jogged laps around the perimeter of the field at Gerald J. Ford Stadium.
Earlier in the day, Moore was walking inside - without a limp - and said his knee "feels great," and reiterated his hope of playing in the Hawaii Bowl. He said he will be fitted with a new brace Tuesday, after which he will begin increasing his workload in hopes of returning to the field.
"Just running in a straight line, I think I'll be OK" in time for the Dec. 24 game, Moore said. "But being able to plant and cut and change directions ... we'll see."

Personally, I'd rather rest him and get his knee 100% than play him in a Bowl game against a "running" offense.

If he is cleared to play, he would be a huge help, because he a big physical corner. Not to mention, the young man makes plays.

Especially not knowing the status of Bell for next year it would be best if S Moore set out Hawaii unless he 100%. We really good need Moore on the field next year. Not only as a shut down corner but as an on the field captain. The defense seems to really play when he's out there. If Moore and Bell start next year that's two pretty good corner.

Thanks, as always, for everything you do, PonyPride.

Multiple concussions in early games this year. Will probably be re-evaluated this spring to see if he is healthy and it is safe for him to play again.Texasscout96 wrote:Whats the word on Derrius Bell?

SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

I'd bet if he were playing without a helmet, he'd be better

Australian Rules Football & rugby players have fewer concussions and I'd really challenge you if you assert they're not as rough. Many more broken facial bones, noses but fewer concussions.
BTW - Do we know for sure Sterling would make the injury worse by playing? He was huge in run support this year.
Re: Sterling Moore back on field ... sort of
Sounds like he will be ready by game time. We will need him.

Word is that he will be getting a doctor's opinion tomorrow, or relatively soon. Apparently, he will not be allowed to play in the game if he is not able to practice with the team for a full week. As such, he must be 'approved' to begin practice Thursday at the latest for him to play in the bowl game.

I really wish he would just rehab and come back strong next year. It seems like recovery is being rushed. Why risk something that could become permanent or at least hamper him in the future for a bowl game? Get well and enjoy Hawaii.
