Frogs pulling for Ponies

Post by Three Putt »

Wouldn't have thought it, but most posters on their forum are hoping SMU wins tonight.

My TCU crazed brother in law and nephew are actually going to cheer for us. Can't get him to explain why but my nephew says he can't stand Nevada.

I noticed it is was running about 10-1 pulling for the Ponies. I wonder why they aren't being called traitors because they are supporting their rival. Maybe its because they don't have an inferiority complex

Call me crazy, but I want SMU to be good. Because our game is a rivalry game, there is always a greater chance for the underdog to win. I actually want the teams to be more evenly matched - ideally for both to be ranked when we play each year. I don't want it if it means TCU declines, but I do want it if SMU rises.

Why? TV coverage, fan interest and attendance - it would mutually benefit both schools' finances and recruiting. Also, if SMU is nationally respected winning the game means more respect and losing a game hurts national standing less. Last year our losses were at Oklahoma and Utah, and we still finished #7 in both polls. I'm not worried about the head to head recruiting impact because I think that we would both attract more recruits nationally and steal more recruits from Big 12 also-rans.

Due to the fact that we play every year and the nature of the rivalry, even if SMU is not a top 25 team - they're going to beat us every now then (e.g. 2005). As a football fan, I would rather watch the game with more doubt about the outcome. I would rather be competing against SMU for a BCS bowl bid rather than Boise State - at least that way we could decide it on the field every year rather than in the polls.

My Froggie friends have shown just a little too much class this year when they really have a lot to gripe about. Making it very difficult to hate them.

GO PONIES. go frogs.

I agree. TCU and Boise State got shafted. I hope their game is way better than the "national championship" circus. Any time a mid-major is successful it benefits us all.

That only counts for this year, and that die has been cast.
