I know it's way before my time, I wanted to see if this was really an SMU helmet?

Never. The only blue helmets we had were in Bennett's era. Blue helmets are not SMU!!!
BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!
For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.

I believe JJ Pearce uses a red pony. That is probably a Grapevine helmet.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

Grapevine.
Re: What year is this helmet from?
Grapevine High for sure. Alex Pahulu and Jack Brewer came from there before leaving early.
Re: What year is this helmet from?
SMU did not have blue helmets until the Phil Bennet era. I miss the blue helmets, because that's my favorite team color. I hate the white helmets. White helmets are for Little Leaguers, practise, or for away games. I'd have a different helmet (and uniforms) look every season.

PonyExpress83,
That looks like the helmet of Midland Christian here in Midland. Yes they are the Mustangs, and that is the helmet color scheme they have worn for the past several years.
GO MUSTANGS!
Re: What year is this helmet from?
here's the response that I got when I informed the guy that it wasn't an SMU helmet, but rather a local HS helmet....
"Yea, thanks I know that. It is a special magic edition.
It is a Grapevine Mustang helmet that gets mistaken for an SMU helmet all the time."
so he KNOWS it's NOT an SMU helmet, but advertises it as such.
