Willingham at Notre Dame

Post by Hoop Fan »

So what do you guys think of Ty Willingham at Notre Dame? He got off to a fast start last year, but is a nasty 2-6 in his second year. Last year he was a genius and a motivator by all accounts. What happened??? Seriously, did he become an idiot in the offseason? Did he 'lose' the team? Guys, college football is about talent and maturity. The coach probably makes a 1 or 2 game difference in a season at the most. As for Bill Parcells, he is one of the greats. How many are there like that really? But even then, Big Bill chose the Dallas situation very carefully. He knew that Dallas was coming off of salary cap oblivion, with an owner who would spend money where he could, when he could. If you're an SMU fan, stop the bashing of Bennett and let him have the time he needs and deserves. Some of you guys act like this program was in good shape when he got here.

Hoop, I agree. My favorite example is Joe Novak at Northern Ill. Although they lost to Bowling Green, a very good team BTW, Novak's first three years at NIU were pitifull.

Rebuilding is not a trend line up an easily predicted slope. Novak at NIU, Johnson at Navy, etc. torn it down before rebuilding it. Not sure Phil can do it, but we have to give him more than 1 and half seasons before we hit the reset button.

Success will be sweet after this experience on top of our recent history. It is what it is.
