Donations down all over but not at SMU....
At least, according to the university.

Could this be due to the football team? I believe so.

It also has to do with the big push to have graduating students donate. $20 bucks is what they ask for.

And to think after 4 years here, I will have given over $200,000 in tuition dollars. Why do I need to give more?

Because one of the components in the U.S. News rankings is percentage of alumni who donate (think of a donation as an investment in yourself - a higher ranking = a more valuable degree). It's a good practice to get in as a student as well, as donations are used for class gifts and other projects used by current students.

Besides, even if you only give $5, you count as a donor...donors get some nice recognition.

Although we would like to think so, it hasn't happened that way yet. It will eventually make its to SMU because of the football teams' success, but it comes about because of one of the most successful college fundraisers in the country: Gerald Turner. He is really the best I have ever seen and we should all be extremly thankful that he is here at the Hilltop and he IS a friend of the athletic programs, contrary to some peoples's beliefs.

Well, I'd go as far as to say that most people on here have given at least that as well. If you don't want to give, don't give.

Let's see.....
$104M less $76M = $28M
$28M / $20 bucks = 1,400,000 students

Our total contributon last year of $104M is greater than Marshall or So Miss's entire endowment.

$200,000?
I graduated in '09 and tuition was nowhere near $50k per year. Total, sure, but not all that goes to SMU (room and board, food, whatever have to be at least 10-15k per year, if not more).
