Progress / Regress
Story of the season.

Re: Progress / Regress
Well Doh is on record saying he inherited a roster full of garbage and that team got him 14 wins. Four years later a team with his guys finally matched that 14 win total...so the wheels are just spinning and we're going nowhere.
I wish he would apologize to Rack and all the other players on that first team since Doh has embarrassed and shamed this program more than anyone else (in history?!?).

I think what he meant is that aside from the seniors and Killen, the rest of the roster was terrible, which I wholeheartedly agree with. I have felt all along that unless we grabbed juco's to fill in the gaps we would be terrible in 07-08 and 08-09. That said, I would have liked a better start to this season (TCU, College of Charleston, Texas State losses) and a better end to the season (better effort against Marshall and win vs UCF).

Good point, also incumbant on Steve O not to be a hypocrit and evaluate Doh under the same criteria he fired Tubbs under. Make no mistake, Steve O had a say in that mess, they just made Copeland do the dirty work.

Re: Progress / Regress
14-17 in your 4th year doesn't look good on a resume, that's for sure.
SMU hoops is at yet another critical juncture. If Doh stays, he'd better have a winning season next year and had better make the most of the 4-5 ships he will have to offer next year.
If I'm in charge and even thinking about making a change, time to cut the cord (assuming the $$ is there) is now, because a new coach has 8-9 ships to give these next 2 classes and would be in position to turn this thing around very quickly with his own guys.

good points. you really have to decide if Doh is the right guy to pick your team for the next 5 or 6 years with all those ships from Doh's first 7 man class opening up.

We lose Faye and Williams this year.
Dia, Harp, TK, Luttman, Walker
That is pretty critical with 5 or so ships for the next year. It's really time to start using Juco's more heavily and keep getting transfers. One of the 3 freshman are using who's other scholarship?

I thought it was one step forward and two steps back-nobody gets too far like that.

Re: Progress / Regress
I have seen some progress but mostly because of the new assistants hired! Their work with Papa Dia has been a sign of better things to come. I believe because of them, coach has cooled off somewhat in his blowing up at the team...I believe they have helped him recruit and will help him in recruiting. Matt's hiring of the new assistants is probably the best thing he has done this year! Go Mustangs!
Re: Progress / Regress
It's 4 ships this year, at least, and 4 next year, at most.

Re: Progress / Regress
with the decision in to retain Doh, I'd be shocked if he doesn't now get 6 seasons and he should have at least 8 new players to help turn this thing around by that 2011-12 season. That's certainly more than a fair opportunity. I really do hope this is the right decision but as long as the talent is upgraded, at the very least the next coach will not come in with a roster void of D-I talent
