Re: BIG EXPANSION NEWS ON RIVALS
if that holds true, and Big 10 does what everyone says it will, I guess we can add Lawrence, Manhattan and Waco to our CUSA road trip list.

smupony94-seriously a lot of free internet sites including the TCU site are getting sued for copying and pasting stories like that. Orangebloods deserves a little credit for getting the story if its true. Its going to go nucleur in the next hour or so but do you really need to copy and paste and entire paid subscription exclusive report.

I agree with you, but I accessed the entire story from the Rivals.com homepage, and I don't have a subscription.

Re: BIG EXPANSION NEWS ON RIVALS
OK that's fine-since I have a Rivals subscription I don't always know. I still think you are the second most creative poster on Ponyfans.
News can not be copyrighted but a article can. Attibution and citation to the source such a public link is allowed. Also Rivals can and does sell content to media outlets. DMN basically uses Rivals as an independent contractor.

Re: BIG EXPANSION NEWS ON RIVALS
If this is indeed true, it will certainly force the SEC's hand, because Texas and A&M would have certainly been their top two targets if they go to 16. But if you're Texas and A&M, why go to the SEC when you can probably make more cash and play against lesser opponents in the Pac-10? I guess the travel times are a big factor as well, and I believe A&M is thought to prefer SEC membership.
This could be the best case scenario for SMU, with the possibility of joining a strong MWC still intact. It will certainly be very interesting to see how this all plays out

This is the first major story by a credible reporter journalist. Chip Brown worked for the DMN on the Texas beat but shifted only recently to Orangebloods. I've got to think this is the real deal or he wouldn't have gone forward.

Re: BIG EXPANSION NEWS ON RIVALS
Well who is going to be the first to comment on what impacts this has on SMU ? Is there anyway this works to our advantage ? Would Kansas, Kansas St Baylor move to Confernce USA ? I have real concern that any of this works to SMU advantage ?
Re: BIG EXPANSION NEWS ON RIVALS
This would be terrible for SMU.
With minor shifts, we were in the conversation for MWC with Houston, Fresno St., Tulsa...If this happens, then all of the big 12 leftovers move ahead of us on the list. Actually our best shot was probably for the MWC to lose BYU and Utah which would force the MWC to consider a more regional approach with a 16 team conference by including some of the CUSA - West Teams.

Probaly won't happen...BUT...maybe it will!!

Re: BIG EXPANSION NEWS ON RIVALS
This is the scenario with the greatest benefits and greatest potential disasters. This is very similiar to the scenario that I thought was the only real alternative for Texas who is driving the bus. I think its 50/50 on whether this is good or eventually bad for SMU. There will be some combination of the MWC schools and the Big 12 Leftovers. Assuming Nebraska and Missouri go Big 12 that leaves only 4 Big 12 Leftovers. More importantly the MWC schools Utah and BYU are cut off from ever going to the PAC. Therefore, MWC may actually come out of this in absolutely fantastic shape-perfectly positioned to add the Leftovers. SMU chances improve the bigger the MWC/Leftover Conference is-hope for 16. But I kind of agree with the previous poster that probably our best chance was a disintegration of the MWC with Utah and possibly BYU going to the PAC-(never thought BYU was realistic though)

Re: BIG EXPANSION NEWS ON RIVALS
Hmmmm. This would obviously be titanic if true. A few questions though:
1. The author really doesn't think there would be a political problem if UT and A&M ended up in different conferences and never played each other. I find that hard to believe. Especially considering that the Governor of Texas is an Aggie.
2. Would the SEC really be interested in A&M if UT wasn't also part of the package? Make no mistake, UT is the prize. . .not A&M.
3. The author feels that UT is not comfortable with SEC "academics". How does that jive with the fact that UT has never had a problem with the "academics" of schools like Iowa State, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, University of Houston, etc. that it has shared conference affiliation with.
4. On the other hand, everything I have read about the PAC-10 indicates that academics are a major consideration for them. UT fits the bill just fine. But Texas Tech and Oklahoma State?
I guess time will tell.
