Just received the following email from a friend of mine who is a Cougar alumni (so ashamed of that fact that he asked me not to reveal his name). The email reads:
It's working! Our efforts to make sure that President Renu Khator and Athletic Director Mack Rhoades have a seat at the conference realignment table have garnered the attention of the State of Texas.
The Texas House Committee on Higher Education plans to meet Wednesday, and we need one more push from you before then. Below is the basic message to deliver to your state legislators. Those with UH connections are listed here, or visit http://www.fyi.legis.state.tx.us to see who represents your area.
Send them a note with the “UH and Conference Realignment” message below.
Go Coogs!

UH and Confererence Realignment:
The University of Houston MUST be in a BCS conference - that's what is best for Houston and best for Texas!
The University of Houston, as the state's third largest public university, deserves to be in a major BCS conference. UH brings the 10th largest television market in the nation, and a strong alumni base that would add up to a million new TV viewers to a conference. With a strong performance in academics and research, the university is well on its way to becoming a Tier One research institution, and is worthy of a top-tier athletics conference.

Re: Houston-Realignment Push
You can laugh, but given the quality and mental abilities of some of our legislators it might just work for them.

SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

Laughable at best. This "legislature" meeting is nothing but for show.

Re: Houston-Realignment Push
I remember my first day of law school orientation at UofH. Guy stood up and said we were "all cougars now" and held up that crippled-hand thingy that kind of looks like the shocker. I said, "No F'ing way."
At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

I remember my daughter in-law taking me to my first SMU game in Houston (the big loss fire PB game). I asked what the heck people were doing with the two fingers. She said that it was pony ears. WTF no way I could ever do that!
You may see me with two fingers up but their stomping hoofs on the opponent as legend has it from its origin, or I’m just causally gesturing the parking lot Nazis
