Sleeper True FR That Could Make An Impact?

Post by StallionsModelT »

I'm going w/ Der'Rikk (sp?) Thomson. I watched this kid's rivals film and came away very impressed. He missed the entire season last year so who knows if he is fully healthy and capable of contributing, but I think he's got a real chance to see some action.

Other possibles: Keenan Holman, Forest Hager, and Hayden Greenbauer.

I'm going with Kenneth Acker. His highlight tapes speak for themselves. I think he'll likely play defense, but could be lethal in the return game. The Pac-10(now 12) schools will be kicking themselves for not taking a longer look at this guy.

fiji,

I agree about Acker. The only hesitation is the level of competition, but the guy did dominate and was electrifying in the return game. The void created by McCann's departure will open the competition up to a lot of guys and surely Acker will be someone to keep your eye on.

I love Butler. However, considering the lack of love by the coaching staff, I have to say that either Fields or Pope will be the THSF saviors of the season.

well if acker can contribute on offense that is where he will play... JJ is HC and he wont hesitate to put a guy on offense if he thinks he can contribute... hes turned many defensive linemen into big bull dozing RBs...

Pope and Fields IMO. Those two guys came to play day 1 and they are in big time shape from all accounts and the competition for RB, either the second team or first, will be outstanding to say the least. I really do think it will remind us all of the days when Dickerson and James came here to play for the SMU backfield...
We will have fun watching practices next month with these kids...FYI--both kids have posted on FB that they have passed some SMU summer classes with flying colors..( B's and A's)

So little can be obtained from a highlight film. If that was all that you needed to evaluate a player then why go out and recruit? Does the kid loaf the rest of the game? Competition? Grades? Work ethic? Size? Speed? Intelligence in picking things up quickly? Team or individual tenedencies? Coachable? Look at the turnover in players in just a couple of years with the new staff? Even with players they recruited? Mitchell, Wittington, Drewery, Mcdade. Even the coaches overlook great players...look at our sr all conf lb last year who only played special teams the previous year due to being undersized until the coaches admitted at the end of the year their best defensive player had been sitting on the bench all year before being given a chance due to injuries. A great sport where heart can still prevail over talent sometimes!
