10 College Football Recruits Who Picked The Underdog School

Post by The PonyGrad »

Davon Moreland
SMU convinced Los Angeles, CA defensive end Davon Moreland to forego his USC and UCLA offers (as well as Washington, Texas A&M and Oregon State) and pledge to the Mustangs in July.

Moreland's very motivation in choosing SMU was to keep his continuing education small and private, and to be a big fish in a small pond. Not a bad idea considering NFL players still come from every conference.

At 6'3", 225 lbs, he's still growing and learning the position after starting his football career as a high-school junior. But his upside was enough to place him among the top 20 strongside defensive ends. I'm excited to see his impact for SMU in the future.

Impressive video. He's very quick and can change direction like big men shouldn't be able to do. The most surprising thing is his straight line speed. In one of those clips the RB back breaks one down the middle of the field and Moreland chases him down, out running the db's on his own team...very impressive stuff.

great stuff. hopefully, not 'the underdog school' for long.

also, I like this: "At 6'3", 225 lbs, he's still growing" -- yeah.

thanks for the find.

This is a bellcow recruit. Odd that we haven't really landed that stellar type of recruit on the offensive side of the ball considering our offense. Give Coach Klemm and Mason a lot of credit for getting this kid.
Back off Warchild seriously.

A big time O passing performance on National TV would attract interest from 4* quality recruits. :)

True thus far, but if Conner Preston lights it up again this year or if Nlemchi runs for another 2,500+ yards, do they get upgraded to 4-star and become the offensive bellcow recruit StallionsModelT is referring too?

Of course, by the end of the season, that's probably too late to effect the class overall, but it might help us pick up a couple 11th hour, high-profile recruits.
