Let's see -- the geldings are getting blessed by an Indian nation which is not native to Texas. Seems to me at a minimum they could have had the Comanches of Texas or at least the plains' native americans such asthe Dakotas or Sioux, but that would make too much sense.
As a practicing Methodist, I do contemplate whether the better idea would have been to include the new Chaplain to SMU to have a "Blessing of the Animals" which is included in the United Methodist Church's Book of Worship to have blessed Peruna and the geldings.
"The animals of God's creation inhabit the skies, the earth and the sea.
They share in the fortunes of human existence
and have a part in human life.
God, who confers gifts on all living things,
has often used the service of animals
or made them reminders of salvation...
We, therefore, invoke God's blessing on these animals.
As we do so, let us praise the Creator
and thank God for setting us as stewards
over all the creatures of the earth."
