How do we fare at Cornerback?

Post by MustangPride »

I know this isn't that big of an issue this week since UAB QB, David Isabelle, is more of a running QB. However, do ya'll feel that if Crawford doesn't perform well in this game that Parks will takeover his starting cornerback position?

I think he will perform better. The receivers will not be the same caliber, nor the QB. He will be asked to come up in support. I feel he will do that well.

This is a young team with some less experienced players.

I don't think we should panic about our conors just yet. The reciviers they faced against tech will probably be the best they face all year. On most plays they had decent positioned but got out competed for the ball

One thing to keep in mind is that as good as Moore turned out to be, he wasn't starting from day one. The coaches gave him some time to be comfortable with the defense.

Crawford, however, is being thrown into the fire.

I think he will be a good player. Don't completely judge him until the 4th game of the season...

Crawford was also in position on almost every catch, he just didn't make the play. Being in position is the first victory. Many of those catches were also by Leong who's played with Potts since they were kids, they have great timing together and Leong is a good receiver who will probably be playing in the NFL some day. I bet we see great improvement from him over the course of the year.

why do we believe that parks is better than crawford at this point?

i think crawford will be fine. just needs a little more time to get adjusted.

that being said, i would like to see parks get some reps this game i know he was out due to illness last week.

Speed is very different between HS and College. Be careful wishing for too many true freshmen on the field too early. And I agree with JasonB. Moore had a tough first couple of games before he settled in and became very good.

I'm looking forward to seeing Parks too-I'm pretty sure he's got the speed but I'll be more interested to see if he's got the hips to play CB at 6-2. Not too many humans can at 6-2-and those that can are uniquely talented. Is he ready to go this week? Actually, he's not on the 2-Deep

Crawford will be fine, that was a future NFL WR. I was most impressed with the way he attacked and tackled on screen passes and in run support.

2nd on the 2 deep are Robinson and Thomas...interesting.

Surprised that the Syracuse kid isnt on the 2-deep at either safety.

I talked Thursday with secondary coach Derrick Odum about this. Nutshell version: Odum doesn't sound concerned about Crawford at all.

"He did some good things, and he did some things he can improve upon," Odum said. "He knows that. But he did a lot of things well. He broke on a bubble screen and blew it up. He almost had an interception on another play.

"But he also has some things to clean up, and he will. Texas Tech was his first game of Div. I football, so there's an adjustment there. On a couple of plays that went for completed passes against him, the defense we ran called for him to play inside leverage, and the ball was thrown over the outside shoulder. If the ball is thrown in the right place, it can be almost impossible to defend, and (Texas Tech quarterback Taylor) Potts threw a couple of those balls perfectly, where his guy would get it or nobody would get to it.

"Richard has some things to clean up, and he knows that, and he will. He has had a good week of practice, and he's going to get better — like I said, he has only played one game. He's going to be fine."

Perfect PP! I think Crawford will be just fine and think all of this criticism of him is way over done.
