playcalling question

Post by davidpaul123 »

I'm the first to admit June is for the most part an excellent playcaller but did anyone else thing running the screen for a converted linebacker(Flemming) was a headscratcher(the fumble not withstanding) considering the other speedsters we have...

He probably tried a lot of things that worked in practice or were being used to test the defense.

The part I like about the play calling was to go with what was working and to not try and force things that weren't

At least there were enough things working so that was not a problem.

Fleming was recruited out of HS as a TE, so WR is not really a stretch.

It bugged me on a few occasions (early on) when it was third or fourth and short and we threw the ball thirty yards down field into double coverage. It was also before we stuck with giving the ball to Zack Line and were giving the ball to Fields and Butler who had no impact whatsoever. I understand that it's good to have multiple options and that the future might be with Fields, but Line has proven to be a beast so far this season and should have been the no-brainer choice in those early, late-down, short-yardage situations.

Injuries were the other area of concern. We seemed to have a lot of guys get banged up in this game (Sterling Moore being the biggest worry). Hopefully everyone is okay and ready when we go to get payback on WSU! I know I will!

We also had a swing pass open a lot of times on 3rd down and short but KP never looked at him.

I noticed that as well. That was a pass KP made to Shawnbrey a few times last year

Dip$hit. 8 Carries for 57 yards is no impact whatsoever?
