How many wins to make 2004 a good season?
Given that most SMU fans have very low expectations when it comes to athletic success, how many wins will make SMU fans happy next year? Is anything short of a winning record a failure? Will SMU fans be happy to win two or three games next year? At what point will the exepctations be raised to a level that TCU and UNT fans have for their teams? Why do are so many SMU fans happy with a program that performs so poorly every year? Haven't SMU fans been embarassed enough the last 14 years?
WHEN IS IT TIME TO EXPECT MORE?

knowledgeable SMU fans should expect to win more games 3-4 years after recruiting at least 3 strong recruiting classes.

Re: How many wins to make 2004 a good season?
I think all of us had undue expectations going into the 2003 season. With that in mind, I think we now have a better understanding that talent compilation is a building process, not something that can happen with a snap of Coach Bennett's fingers. He certainly is on the right track, however -- the talent level is growing, and more rapidly than many of us might have expected. I'd say we should win about 3 games in 2004, and given this year's record, there's no way we can be upset with that. Give me a few wins, but more than that, we should start to see improvement, whether or not that translates into wins. The real jump in the win column will appear in 2005. But I can't wait to be there in 2004 to see the improvement as the guys take their first steps toward success.

PonySnob,
First of All...we arent UNT and TCU!
Here are my expectations....
Texas Tech-No Chance As long as we try our hardest Ill be happy
TCU-Expect to win it
Oklahoma State-Same as Texas Tech
San Jose State-Expect to Atleast Compete with them unlike we did this year
Boise State-Be able to compete with them a little more than we did this year
Rice-Expect to win it
Louisana Tech-Expect to win it
Fresno State-Same as San Jose State
Tulsa-Expect to win it
Nevada-Expect to win it
UTEP-Expect to win it
I know thats saying I expect to win 6 games but all of those teams are beatable. As long as we beat TCU Ill be happy.

Why does Tech scare you more than Boise State? When Kingsbury graduated from Tech, they had BJ Symons waiting in the wings, and he obviously is a sensational passer. Does anyone know who's going to play QB for the Red Raiders next year? Boise State is graduating a lot of guys, but I thought they were more impressive than Tech this year.

Re: How many wins to make 2004 a good season?
Tech just signed the #1 JUCO in the nation and the Texas 4A passing champ from Ennis. That goes along with 5th year senior Sonny Cumbie and Redshirt freshman (and Texas 3A passing champ from a year ago) Phillip Daughtery.
QB will be fine. Defense, on the other hand...
PS: I enjoyed meeting several SMU fans last year in Lubbock and hope to see many more next year.

The attitude dictates that you don't care whether she comes, stays, lays, or prays. I mean whatever happens, your toes are still tappin'. Now when you got that, then you have the attitude.

Bennett's gone if we win less than 3. Possibly gone if less than 5. Cavan recruited better than the level we're playing at now.
