SMU football stats through 11 games

Post by Mitch McConnell »

Pretty interesting how close just about everything is. But then that would make sense for a 6-5 team.

Turnover ratio is still poor at Minus - 8
We've been OK in the penalty department.

We have 21,000+ average attendance this year. Wonder how that will compare to next year with our home schedule that doesn't included a known huge draw.

We'll average about 12,000 - so what?

The numbers that jumped out at me were the scoring by quarters. We are doing the things we need to do in the 2nd and 3rd quarters, but the differential in the 4th quarter is pretty lopsided. It shows our lack of depth.

Eliminate the turnover issue and I think some of the scoring problems in the fourth quarter correct.

Guessing yards gained from a blocked field goal or something like that. There was the 77 yard field goal return against Rice ... not sure where the other 12 come from.

Do we really have to talk about attendance in every other thread? Seriously, we get it. Attendance isn't where we want it to be. But continue to put up winning seasons, and it'll get there. So let's stop stating the obvious for God's sake.

We were supposed to have Baylor

I said 6-6 would be an improvement over last yr bc stronger SOS and lesser d talent and wrs

RB is equal. But clearly our d has suffered

7-5 is a huge improvement over last year

First of all, we prob had no biz being 7-5 last yr

But don't be disappointed with 6-6 except for ur desire to be better

7-5 is great. And. Next year we might expect better.

Think about it, if we had 1/2 our blocked Fgs we would have been 5-7

I think we'll be right about the same or slightly higher. We get Baylor and Navy at home. Baylor will likely have more than 30k and Navy should be near or over 25k.

And if we win either of those games there's reason to believe our subsequent conference games will have higher attendance. Everyone likes a winner.

Because of the changes in the big 12 next year Baylor has to reduce their OOC games by one and they have dropped SMU from their 2011 schedule. I believe we have replaced them on our schedule with some lower division school. Thus a much, much lower attendance expected at that game.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

Baylor has been replaced by Northwestern State.
