On average the BLVD at game time has no more than 50 people on it.
It's not the problem. And how would you know how many people were there?
Win all the time they will come. Did you buy season tickets this year? Are you a card carrying MC member? If not you are correct your the problem. If you did my apologies for being so forward .

You can't blame a generation for what was offered, things are worth investing time and money now.

I agree. I have sent messages to the Mustang Club in a similar tone - we need to do fund-raising events around DFW targeting alumni who graduated post 1986. Have coaches and ex-players tour the metroplex. Hold happy hours in various locations, sponsored by the mustang club, give them access to the players and coaches. Even have some of the older alums talk about how things were in the "good ole days". Get them excited, involved, and get them to throw in 50 bucks and become members of the Mustang Club. Hold these meetings in some of the newer, hip locations around town - Uptown, Shops at Legacy, Waters Creek. Bring in some young alumni while at the same time building a brand amongst younger, football savvy folks in Dallas looking for a local team to support. Advertise it on the Ticket.

We need to do more than just ask people to come into the bubble for lunches or recruiting parties. If we continue to do that, we will just bring in the same folks over and over again. We are going to have to go out and recruit the younger alums to join.

And, as a member of that post 1986 crowd, I would much rather participate in that sort of fund-raising event than call people for the Morgan campaign again...

I've ran out to the vard many games to ck on the tv ect. And honesty with the exception of the TCU game not many on the vard.

Let me ask this question if this team is 10 and zero do you have to advertise or beg people to come?

The lost generation is an issue. Not only was constant losing a factor in creating it, but so was the level of competition.

As it has been seen, students are willing to come to games if it is an opponent that interests them. Eventually, constant winning should be interesting on its own.

In the meantime, creative promotions would be helpful.

A&M uses a points system in which students gain points for each sporting event they attend. If enough points are accumulated, minor prizes can be attained. This would also benefit sports that are poorly attended, such as volleyball.

Vanderbilt has begun promoting selected players, using their own experiences as a means of better connecting with fans.

Door prizes may also be enticing. Tickets could be given at the beginning of each contest, with winners being announced at the end.

As someone who graduated in 1981 I think it is inaccurate to limit the Lost Generation to post DP. I think that those that experienced the success of the 1980s pretty much gave up on the program too.

There isn't a lost generation. There is lost EVERYONE but a few fanatics. They tend to be older because there was something to be fanatic about then.

Here's a perspective from a new fan. Nope, we are not alums but now have tight ties x2. Having made it in for 4 games, 2 of which my brood was yelled at for being to loud. Also when trying to embrace all the is SMU football, I stumble across this board and encounter Stallion. Hoping my dark cloud clears by next season

It wasn't too surprising you were a new fan because you obviously know nothing about the tradition and heritage of the program. Cool Black Jersey!!!!!!!!!!! I got a suggestion maybe you ought to go support a team with Black Jerseys. This board is filled with posters who never set foot on the campus for a single Class (See Above) yet seem to think we give a crap about every insane idea to change tradition determined a Century ago. Do you go to someone else's house and move the furniture around because its just about as disrepectful to the SMU alumni who have supported the school throughout the generations.

I can't believe me eyes. SMU needs to recruit fans as much as recruit players. SMUnewbie you are always welcome at SMU athletic events and we welcome you joining the Mustang Club too. SMU can not reach it's goals if we don't reach out to non-alums that enjoy college sports. Remember fellas SMU is a small school and many strong supporters and donors are non-alums. Programs like Texas, Alabama, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Miami, Ohio State, Penn State, USC all enjoy large fan-bases and many of those fans are non-alums. Lets welcome new SMU fans with open arms. We need them.
