all the tools he needs. Frustrating to watch your rival get it done while we obviously still have internal issues based on JJ comments this week.

It might have been those tweets from Jones' agent Leigh Steinberg

Steinberg was talking about SMU's commitment to facilities and admissions. These came out on Tuesday (I think) after the story broke that Jones spoke to Maryland and then withdrew.

Re: Meanwhile, Turner still not sure he wants to give Jones
Easy answer--What he was promised by Turner when he signed up!
No question Orsini is important to JJ and the stand Osini made this summer in support of his programs came as a surprise to our president. However, I have been told that there is now a contract on the table including sizable raise, so things are progressing. Anyone hear differently?\
JJ now needs to work on the programs and admissions in the new School of Education--and keep making friends with the faculty. I have heard both he and Orsini are doing a great job clearing up many widely held misconceptions left over from the dp days. I can't believe that there are many professors still here that were at the school then, so the current faculty opposition must be engaged in old fashion rumor mongering, power trips and dare I say it--"prejudice".
If every school has a 2.5 or higher (Cox is now 3.25, I believe), where do the average students with C averages go after their sophomore year? Just stuck in the Pych/Soc Depts at Dedman?

With the new Education Department coming into its own, hopefully not. And that's a tricky thing, too - as I posted elsewhere, it's not something we really want to see happen, or risk what is called "academic clustering" which could result in a cluster of a different kind, eventually.

Re: Meanwhile, Turner still not sure he wants to give Jones
Most of you know that I don't post just to post...I'm inconsistent with it, no doubt, but I don't generally put up unsubstantiated crap.
Bottom line: I have it from a knowledgeable source the Coach Jones is not interested in leaving...period. This is not a discussion worth having at this time; in fact, I'd call it woefully counter-productive. And no, I'm not naming the source.
I'm not saying that Orsini's contract doesn't matter. It might or might not; I don't know about that. I'm not saying anything about the kind of commitment or relationship that Jones and Dr. Turner have with each other; I don't know anything about that either.
But I believe the source; Jones is still the coach, and he's going to be the coach when SMU takes on and beats A&M.
And the coaches are ginning up one helluva recruiting class relative to anything SMU has seen in a very long time. So...next.

If June Jones remains the coach, that does not negate the need to provide him with the necessary tools to win.
