He was going to get $55 mil guaranteed. Take the money while you can man. Who knows if there will be a NFL next year, added to the fact that the NFL is going to scale rookie salaries to mirror the NBA draft.
Who cares if you suck in Carolina, you're set for the rest of your friken life.

He wasn't going to get that money...CBA ended last year and there will be a rookie salary cap much less than that....
He has family money and a Stanford architecture degree is worth a good chunk of change....

I wonder how much the insurance policy will cost.
Take the money go back to school after you limp out of the NFL.

I thought that the new Rookie pay scale would not come into effect until 2012, which is why so many players were going pro now.
Based on reports I heard the Panthers were going to "pony up" $55 mil guaranteed.
He might have family money, but I highly doubt its 55 mil.

CBA ends in March....These kids are actually taking a risk declaring...they could be left with no football, no money and no school if a deal doesn't get done...which is prob 50/50 by opening day...

Make 70 g a year work up to a buck and and a half over 10 years ...
4 mill in 30 years or 55 in 5 hmmmmm.

Re: Luck decides to stay at Stanford
Here is the thing you guys are failing to understand. Look at Stanford's Alumni. It is like Harvard.....but imagine Harvard could play for a national title. By coming back to Stanford and making a run at the Heisman and national title, he just assured himself any job or seat on any board he wants.
Condi Rice wants a national title. He blows out his knee in his first game, homeboy is not going to be driving a tractor like Marcus Dupree. Condi will pick up the phone, get him a seat on a fortune 500 company's board and he will make 5 million a year for the rest of his life. And then Condi will introduce him to the Bush's tax guy. And of that 5 million, it will all be moved offshore and he will pay zero taxes.
Tiger wanted so badly to be on that sideline for the Orange Bowl. He would write a check for 20 million if Luck stayed of would get him a board seat at Nike or Gatorade!

It's not that far off for some of these political gigs...Companies hire these no talent asssclowns all the time, knowing they will be in washington soon to lobby for them....
Re: Luck decides to stay at Stanford
I think it's a good move considering the Panthers suck, they have no coach at the moment and with the deadline fast approaching why risk going first to a coach you may not like. Forget the money, he's from a well off family plus a Stanford education will guarantee him a career well after football ends. I guess he can enjoy playing for Buffalo in 2012.

I can give you 55 million reasons why it's a terrible move.
You might not care about money now, Andrew, but that’s going to change when that $65 million contract you would’ve had this year becomes $6.5 million after the NFL finally gets its stuff together and hammers out a deal
Players can always go back to school in the summer to get their degrees, and then, unlike now, it really is about being a student, since no college football player worth his salt gets the time to ever fully focus on learning.
