NCAA Says Yes to UH, Case Keenum

Post by smupony94 »

HOUSTON - College football sources told FOX 26 Sports the NCAA has granted University of Houston quarterback Case Keenum a sixth-year of eligibility.

This is tremendous news for the Cougar football program.

Keenum began the 2010 season as a Heisman Trophy candidate and was on track to break NCAA career records for total offense, passing yards, touchdowns, pass attempts and completions.

However, he suffered a season-ending knee injury against UCLA during the third game of the season.

Following the 2010 season the University of Houston requested that the NCAA grant Keenum the extra year of eligibility due to medical hardship.

Keenum was red-shirted his freshman season at UH, but as part of its request the school told the NCAA he missed his initial year of football due to injury.

To receive a sixth-year of eligibility a player must miss at least two seasons due to factors out of their control, in this case injury, and the NCAA agreed.

In 2009 Keenum finished eighth in the voting for the Heisman Trophy and led the nation in passing offense and total offense.

That season Keenum passed for 5,671 yards, the third-highest total in NCAA Division 1/FBS single season history.

He also joined Texas Tech's Graham Harrell as one of only two players to pass for 5000 yards in two seasons..

In 2008 Keenum led the nation in total offense and was second in passing.

Good for him and good for them. It was too bad seeing him go down like that with an injury. CUSA needs a good Houston and SMU in the West.
Back off Warchild seriously.

If he stays healthy he's going to break a ridiculous amount of NCAA records.

Good that they were able to remember that injury from his red shirt year.

This does not matter. They beat us at our place with their 3rd team QB this year. We do not need for them to get worse. We need to get better.

CUSA needs this-and if we want to hit the national scene we need CUSA to do well. Think of it as building a resume like the MWC did that will pay dividends for CUSA's best teams. Tulsa and UCF in Top 25 with victories over ND and Georgia are things CUSA can start to point to. Beating a good UH team earns national respect for SMU

What bothers me about this is what mrydel pointed to. There was never a mention of an injury his freshman year. He was stuck behind Kevin Kolb that year. He wasn't even the full time started his sophomore year until the second half of the season.

He did have a major injury to a knee. Not a light injury and for a QB, it could be significant.
