if he redshirted he would be out of eligibility since he was a Junior last year. Even if he didn't its rare to take a transfer who has to sit a year with only 1 year to play. Generally these guys head to D1-AA

Only way that I really see it as a possibility is if he is a graduate and he is going to transfer here to get in a masters program that is not offered at Iowa State. If this were the case, he would be able to transfer here without having to sit out a year.
