More Ford Improvements

Post by Mitch McConnell »

The athletic department is trying to raise funds or has already secured funds to renovate the locker rooms and the lounge areas. From what I understand, the probject is about $1-2 million in the making.

Another important step. Maybe people can work together in groups and raise money that can either go toward that or increase their Mustang Club donation.

I think June and his staff and the athletic department understand that you need to improve what you already have and modernize it. I don't think we they would be doing it unless June didn't feel like something needed to be done. From what I understand, the locker rooms haven't changed since Ford opened.

As for the IPF, my understanding is that athletic officials are trying to secure a lead donor for it. Of course, we should understand that this project is going to cost high 7 seven figures to low 8 figures. I'm not sure how many of us have that kind of disposable income lying around.

I would think that at some point in 2012 there will be an announcement for it. When? I have no idea.

And if some of you believe the athletic department doesn't recognize the important of an IPF, then that's really ridiculous on your part. It'll happen.

BTW, can some of you name the timeline for when TCU's IPF went from the discussions to the announcement to the construction to the dedication? I know I can't it.

But how long ago did HP's open? Wouldn't costs be different over time?

Isn't it fair to presume that whoever is doing the due diligence will examine a lot of examples and take things from there. One thing that would be interesting is if there would be the room or the design available for June and the staff to move their offices in there.

Locker rooms, shower and bathrooms have not been renovated at the Natatorium since 1958 literally. If you want to see a campus disgrace just visit the pool.

Outside of finding that one special donor, I think our best bet to get the Natatorium renovated, which I agree is a disgrace, is to concentrate on getting one of those $15,000,000 football checks, and build from there.

Poco,

As we both know, you are understating the dilemma. No other Div. 1 sport for both Men and Women on the Hilltop recruits, trains and competes in a facility that is remains fundamentally unchanged for 55 years. Although BB has a new training facility, I do acknowledge Coliseum innovations are still needed.

I'd be interested in donating to stuff like this, the IPF or Moody renovations, or you name it, but there's never any communication about what the plans/needs are. I'm no lead donor by any stretch, my donation wold buy a few cases of nails or a sheet rock panel, but if there are others like me, then by the power of aggregation we'd have a nice chunk of change.

I guess the secrecy is to hide failure if they can't secure a lead donor or complete the financing, but a little more openness on the school's part might lead to quicker actions and funding with some of these needs.

It actually happened fairly quickly after a formal proposal was made. The lead gifts were given by Jane and John Justin Foundation and the Cox Family.

It cost $7,000,000, less the existing artificial turf practice field.

SMU's will cost more, just because it will have to blend with other buildings on campus.
