Re: Commit #4
Not even a profile for him yet on rivals.
Re: Commit #4
Why aren't the coaches signing high rated or well publicized recruits early to serve as a beacon to other potentially top rated recruits? Signing non-rated( read: unknown) kids early doesn't send a strong message out there for potential or already rated high 3 Star, 4 Star and ahem ( yes am reaching here).....5 Star interest at SMU. We had a strong 2011 class, lets ride the wave and not just .....settle. Maybe this kid would have signed on way late before signing day. Just saying we should lead with some strong anchors as the first recruits to commit.

Good question, Ponyscott. Excellent question in fact. I have not researched this player but I don't remember hearing a thing about him previously, on any site.
Re: Commit #4
He looks like a good athlete in the video...don't know his size and weight and not dissing on him at all BTW....I hope we found a real sleeper down there in La. and that and he stays with us if he has a successful senior season.

I guess the coaches recruited him for the thing you can not coach. He has 4.40 listed 40 hmm

Hmmm..remember this is a SELF promoted YouTube video with a GPA and/or 40 times that are not yet verified publicly. Lets hope he is that quick and has a high GPA.ozfan wrote:78pony wrote:Good question, Ponyscott. Excellent question in fact. Re: Commit #4
This one made me put down my cigar. First, do you really think the coaches don't want to sign highly regarded recruits. Their efforts in CA alone suggests that is not the case. Secondly, our first commitment came from a highly regarded three star athlete. Finally, some of our most productive players did not receive that much attention in high school. Let's run JG, Taylor Reed, Line, and Pardon out of town because they didn't have enough stars out of high school.ponyscott wrote:Why aren't the coaches signing high rated or well publicized recruits early to serve as a beacon to other potentially top rated recruits? Re: Commit #4
You lead with your best and send a message that Highly regarded and publicized athletes are now coming to SMU....just a point made FWIW ... But notice that all the great Cali recruits are coming from one coaching source...
And back when the coaches first came here to SMU they couldn't get the highly regarded athletes...NOW they can. Phil Bennett tried the 'coach em up' routine and that didn't work over the long term. Reap the harvest when you can. We have HS coaches that chime in on here on PF that suggest that the coaches maybe aren't after the Texas top recruits as they maybe should or could be....

Re: Commit #4
Daijuan Stewart Looks like a solid 3 Star athlete to me who could play inside receiver or DB. He just has not been rated yet. Our Coaches got several unrated commits last year who ended up 3 Star recruits on Rivals and/or Scout before signing day. They certainly are going to offer a recruit they really want that maybe they found who is willing to commit before he is rated. You really think this guy is not very good after watching the video, because others have not rated him yet ? I bet he ends up a high 3 Star on both Rivals and Scout. There a lot of great recruits out there who the recruiting services have not gotten around to rating yet and others who will step up this fall and obtain higher rankings.
Re: Commit #4
You are suggesting that we should let the timing of our offers be held hostage to when 3rd party recruiting services get around to rating a particular player? Brilliant.ponyscott wrote:Why aren't the coaches signing high rated or well publicized recruits early to serve as a beacon to other potentially top rated recruits?
