What's your plan for BCS inclusion?

Continue winning? More athlete friendly majors? Indoor practice facility? Expand Ford Stadium? Add baseball?

What does your blueprint look like?

Think of the BCS like it is Goldman Sachs. It basically gives the Government instructions on how to behave so they can make more money. The BCS tells the NCAA how to behave so the BCS can make more money. In order for us to be included in a BCS Conference we have to enhance their revenue.

Instead of spending huge sums of money adding sports, venues or cake walk majors, we would be better served spending money to create a marketing plan to enhance our brand. Fill Ford Stadium and have kids walking down the street wearing SMU Gear (as opposed to Baylor, Whorn, TT...etc.). One thing we had during our Glory Years was the love of the city and name recognition. If we get back to that, without the negatives (like NCAA investigations), then we are really attractive to a BCS Conference.

Incriminating pictures of BCS Presidents with dead girls or live boys although for the Aggie President a sheep will do.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

Beat aTm would be a good start, and the football program is on track. However, someday I hope we are finally going to understand a need to have a marketing plan beyond SMU people that you keep working on to include Dallas until you get it right. This is the only way to increase football attendance. Other private schools have done it around the country and SMU could, but for some reason here it doesn't get done.

Yes, we have to position ourselves as Dallas' team. All of Dallas.

While the cable show was cool, I'd like to see metrics on ROI of that money spent.

You could do a nice radio/billboard social media blitz with that.

Starting to agree with you. He was the perfect guy to engineer the turnaround, but is he the guy that will lead us to the promised land? I'm not so sure anymore....the recruiting this off-season has been less than impressive, and I can't seem to shake the opinion that he really doesn't enjoy it here.

A) Concentrate on football. Continue to put money and resources into it - no other sport counts as far as BCS continues.
B) Continue to build C-USA while we keep our options open. I know, I know, it's not what we want. But the smartest thing Louisville, Memphis, Houston, etc. ever did was realize they didn't need the SEC, ACC, etc. and work with other schools to build something. That gives them goals, leverage, and a small amount of political clout. That translates into a chance to be a part of something - Louisville and Cincinnatti showed that.

Of course successful athletics provides, in itself, notoriety thus turning the heads of the big conferences but the marketing is the missing puzzle piece. Merchandise is the key to household namehood. When people see the likes of Texas Tech, Texas, and A&M on the cool hats in the lids stores around the nation, young people are compelled to learn more about them. We (SMU) barely has any merchandise 1) on the internet, and 2) outside of our own bookstore! Get your name out there, and you'll be included in the conversation. End of story.
