Big Weekend at Ford

Post by RE Tycoon »

New level 7 on 7 National Championship such and such going on this weekend. Both services have mentioned it, but a quick Google search yielded nothing, so I don't think the tourney has a website.

Pretty much all of the kids we are recruiting out of Cali will be here, as well as elite players from across the country. Here's hoping for a cool front to hit Friday and/or hot coeds prancing around in bikinis.

I think I'm booked up this weekend, but if I can get a spare moment I might want to check this out. Does anyone have any info? Dates, open to the public, charge to get in?

Does anyone know if the coaches will be around campus or away for the long weekend?

I don't think they can have anything to do with a private camp on their campus

Maybe it would be a good time to test out the audio/video on the scoreboard. They could run a replay of the Hawaii Bowl against Nevada just to make sure the picture is clear and the sound is good.

Exactly! I understand Coach K and Coach Jeff will be on campus and since they work at SMU....they may be visible around the campus.....can say hi, but not recruit.

How about watch all the games and then the next time they talk to this recruits they can talk about how they performed and how impressive they were. They need to be there and they need to be seen observing everything. Maybe they don't score any points with the recruits by doing this, but the staff would definitely lose points by not being visible.

apparently the distinguishing issue is whether any speed, strength, agility or conditioning drills are performed and whether it is invitation only and not open to general public except for certain age restrictions. If testing is done or it is not open to general public, then no coach can attend. I assume that's the case with this camp-most of the big camps test-but I really don't know the dtails with this camp.
see page 11 under non-institutional camps. Also I note there are restrictions when some participants are from out of state which this one definitely includes.

actually this looks like just a 7 on 7 Tournament which probably doesn't meet that definition. Wasn't SMU supposed to host a testing camp too. Example of that kind of combine would be the BG2 Elite Combine held last week in California which the recruiting services have been discussing and praising Marks and Lewis.

Nope I've seen several recent stories stating that Coaches can not attend 7 on 7 Tournaments including this source but I can't find an actual cite to take a look at the particular NCAA bylaw. The NCAA is monitoring these camps very closely right now and apparently will send agents to investigate-The concern is that the organizers may sometimes act as"street agents"
