Texas A&M has taken the next step toward leaving the Big 12 and joining the SEC.
A letter from Texas A&M president R. Bowen Loftin was delivered Thursday afternoon to Big 12 commissioner Dan Beebe to inform Beebe that Texas A&M is exploring its conference options. In the letter, Loftin asked Beebe to outline the procedures required should the Aggies decide to leave the conference

Re: A&M Letter to Big 12
I think I'd prefer Texas A&M to stay in the Big 12. I know I heard that SMU wants in the Big 12 and I guess that's fine with me since it gives us AQ status but I hate Texas.
The reason that I want A&M to stay is because if A&M goes to the SEC it will give the SEC a 42% immediate growth in the tv market because currently the SEC has 58.6 million viewers to 24.8 million in Texas. And the Texas market is growing. For the SEC, only Atlanta is in the top 10 in the tv market, where Dallas and Houston are both top 10 and Austin and San Antonio are in the top 13.
I read an article that had that information but now don't remember if it was on ponyfans or another board.

Re: A&M Letter to Big 12
Opening of a spot in the Big 12 is nothing but a plus for SMU. Maybe not a huge plus, depending on what Missouri and Oklahoma decide to do, but A&M going to the SEC cannot hurt us. The big SEC schools, particularly in the Western Division would gain a recruiting foothold here, but so what? If we can recruit nationally and start getting back some of those players who want to go to school in North Texas that we have lost to TCU since the death penatly, we wont be in a bad situation. I think UT and OU will suffer recruiting problems because they will be losing the type of recruit who specifically wants to play at the big state schools.

Re: A&M Letter to Big 12
With this move, I wonder if the real loser will be Texas--both the state and the University. I wonder how long their other conference mates will allow them rule the conference after screwing the pooch with Nebraska, Colorado and A&M. UT has ruined the conference out of sheer greed. The threat that if UT bolts the Big 12 the conference will be finished is no longer true--with UT's inclusion the conference is finished!
Short sited greedy folks. Everyone should look down on UT, their AD and their board--shame! shame! shame! You people forgot that the people of this state pay for your university. You have hurt the state not just in terms of revenue, but its traditions.

As much as UT Austin makes me want to vomit, I would never wish to see them replaced by Tennessee.

I was just kidding on the Walmart T-shirt comment. Go to Tenn and see who they believe orange and white and UT represents.
